Last One Standing
Disclaimer: I don't own.
From what Sabine could tell after the fact, everything had happened quickly.
First, Kanan had never returned from trying to seek help from an unknown friend. Hera had been worried, but she couldn't have done anything, not with Thrawn breathing down her neck and threatening so much of the Rebel fleet.
Next had come the assault from the Star Destroyers. Sabine had allowed herself a small amount of pride upon finding out that her shield had held, despite the heavy fire. No one had perished during the planetary bombardment, at least at the base (that might have been what stopped Kanan from returning; she would never know now). Had Thrawn given up when the shield kept his assault from touching the base, the battle would have ended much differently.
But Thrawn hadn't given up, and he had led a ground assault. Hera, Zeb, and Rex, as well as General Dodonna, had attempted to repel him and his stormtroopers, but they had been slaughtered (as far as Sabine could tell; if anyone had survived, he had been captured by the Empire). Their bodies, however, had had dozens, if not hundreds, of stormtroopers surrounding them. They had taken as many of them with them as they could.
All this had coincided with Ezra's appeal to her mother for reinforcements, an appeal that had been rejected. He and Chopper had left, determined to make a stand and try to help their friends. Sabine had begged to go with them, but her mother wouldn't allow it. Thrawn had stayed in the system, near Atallon, in case more rebels showed up to help Chopper Base. So when Ezra and Chopper had come out of hyperspace, they were ambushed. Not even a Jedi was capable of going up against six Star Destroyers and an Interdictor cruiser. Between the two of them, however, they managed to take down one of the Star Destroyers and disable two more. Let no one ever say that Ezra Bridger didn't die a warrior.
Sabine sighed and wiped away the lingering tears on her cheeks before sliding her helmet onto her head. She was the last one of her family (Ghost-family, not Clan Wren) left standing. She would make sure Thrawn and the Empire knew that. "This is for my family," she whispered as she buckled her belt with her blasters around her waist and left to remind Thrawn why he shouldn't mess with a Mandalorian and her family.
A/N: Soooo...this odd, short, morbid one-shot popped into my head as I watched "Zero Hour," and it kinda demanded that I write it. It's basically "what if 'Zero Hour' had ended a bit more realistically"...so everybody died.
I left it open for Dodonna to still be alive so that movie canon could still be the same, but other than that...yeah, I killed everyone. Sorry, not sorry.
