"Don't you find this weather wonderful?" Blys exclaims to her companion beside her, resting on top of a boulder. The Absol replies with a grunt. "You're such a downer Orion," Blys chides with a grin. The chilly wind sweeps her golden curls against her rosy face. She touches her eyes softly, and it feels good as her fingers glide over her cerulean pupils: like a feeling when returning home from an absence. But from what trip? The mountain breeze engulfs the valley, making the trees behind Blys and Orion shudder. They are incased with fresh snow from the night before. Snowflakes litter the ground before them. The pair stands atop a rocky plateau that overlooks the silent hollow.
"Orion," Blys says as she runs her hand absently through his soft white fur, looking off into the distance, "Do you think me fine even though I can't remember much?" The Absol looks in the girl's direction and creeps on to her lap. He huskily speaks his name to her. "I see," Blys replies. "That is good Orion." She pauses. A fierce cry of a Pokemon in the distance breaks the silence. It is the sound of metal that screeches. Blys cannot seem to recall who can produce such a noise. She closes her eyes and begins to hum a song: an old lullaby she once heard. She can't remember where it was from. She can only remember the silhouette of a woman. A candle. Flashes of light. And mercifully, darkness.
Close your eyes sweet child
Your mind a clouded with fear
For the night can pass by quickly
If you hold what you love dearly
The light at the end of the tunnel
Orion's wise eyes look at his trainer intently, sensing sadness in her heart. Blys opens her eyes and a tear trickles down her cheek. "I can't remember Orion," she whispers; her chin trembles.
"Blys," the man says, "Do take care when exploring. There are creatures out there that can harm you."
"I'll be fine Papa," she says as she bounces past her father through the thicket of leaves. She emerges from the tangle of vegetation to be greeted by a bright clearing. There is snow everywhere. As her eyes adjust to the light, she sees a blur of blue and golden yellow and a flick of a tail by the water. There is an island at the middle of the water, with a jagged cave in the center. Blys takes care to not get her boots wet in the snow as she carefully makes her way down to the shore.
In the cave, the dank light filters in through small cracks in the ceiling. There is a musty odor but a pattern of puddles in the ground. Blys hears a whoosh of air behind her. She turns around startled and the only thing she sees is herself in the reflection of the water. Blys feels the presence of something with her again. An eerily echo is heard in the cave. Blys begins to cry now. She doesn't like it. Finally, the creature reveals itself in front of her. She is too busy crying to notice until she hears the steady breathing of the Pokemon in front of her. It ends all now… Come…Blys lifts her head and a flash of light engulfs her body. She screams a wretched scream. The last thing she sees is the bright pupils of the creature, a startling white. Papa finds her later, her body rigid and stiff, mumbling.
"I can't recall anything else," Blys says to Orion. He pities her. "And I am terribly sad," she continues with a sad smile on her face. "But I have you Orion: that is all that matters." Orion nods in agreement. The pair is quiet again. "I wonder what time it is," Blys states. She gets up and Orion follows. Their feet crunch the snow softly. They walk back to the village. A pair of eyes follows Blys as she leaves. The jewel on its head glistens in the dim sunlight.
