A Few words with the Tiger
Author's Note: I don't really know a lot about the show, so expect improvisation. Thanks!
Spiderman listened to the quiet hum of the S.H.I.E.L.D jet's engines as he waited for the drop signal light to turn green.
Sitting across from him was White Tiger.
She sat with her hands between her legs and her eyes staring at the floor, occasionally glancing up at the drop signal light.
The others-Nova, Iron Fist, and Powerman, were all doing the same.
No one said anything for a while.
Finally Spiderman spoke up.
Looking over at White Tiger he asked, "So.….how do you feel, Tiger?"
White Tiger looked up at Spiderman, then down again.
"I've been better" she said.
"I'm sure everyone's been better."
White Tiger nodded.
"I will admit, I've been on a lot of insane missions before. But this..." her voice trailed off.
"I hear you" said Spiderman, "trust me, I would rather face like, hundreds of Doc Ocks, then go up against this guy."
There was another round of silence, then White Tiger spoke again.
"How long has it been?"
"What do you mean?"
"Since we left school?"
"Oh. uhh...four...years? I think?" Spiderman looked over at the others, who all nodded in confirmation.
"Four years..." White Tiger repeated, "man, time flies...I can't believe we're in our twenties already."
"I know right? Feels like yesterday I heard those encouraging words, 'As stupid as you are, you're pretty smart sometimes'."
"Ugh, I can't believe you still remember that" White Tiger covered her face in embarrassment.
"Who could forget such loving words?" Spiderman snickered.
"Stop..." White Tiger moaned, though she was secretly enjoying it.
"How do you feel now?" Spiderman asked.
"I...actually feel a bit better. Thanks for that" White Tiger said.
"Anything for a friend, Tiger" said Spiderman, "seriously though, our days at school feel like a dream at this point."
"Yeah."
There was a pause, then White Tiger asked: "So, uh...you ever hear those rumours about...you know...uh..."
"Your apparent crush on me?"
White Tiger nodded.
"There may be...some...truth in there" she said, looking at the floor again.
Spiderman's eyes widened.
Was White Tiger actually confessing to him?
"For...for how long?" Spiderman asked.
"Almost all throughout our schoolyears...and S.H.I.E.L.D business" White Tiger said.
"And...seeing as this could be our last mission...t-together..." her voice suddenly choked up.
Spiderman reached over and put a hand on White Tiger's knee.
"It's okay, Tiger. You don't have to say it if you feel you can't" he said.
White Tiger shook her head.
"N-no, no..." she stammered, "I-I must...I just want to say...that...that you've been the greatest...if not the best...friend...ever."
"The same can be said about you, Av-I mean...um...T-Tiger" Spiderman was starting to tear up too.
"And...I also want to say...not as White Tiger...but...but as Ava...that...that I love you" White Tiger said finally.
"I love you too" Spiderman said.
He got up and wrapped his arms around White Tiger.
Suddenly, the drop signal light turned green.
Spiderman let go of White Tiger and took his place at the other side of the skydiving hatch.
As the hatch opened, Spiderman took one more look at White Tiger.
"Go get 'em, Tiger" he said, "Let's show Thanos what we got."
