Dedications through time

In her first book, Temperance Brennan had made no dedication. She had nobody to thank. She could thank her colleagues, her friends, but in doing this would simply distract from her cold exterior.

In her second book, she made her first dedication to him.

To Seeley Booth, my partner and friend.

Before the release of her third book, she pondered who to dedicate her book to this time. Finally, she decided.

To Booth. Because when I don't know what that means, you're always there to explain it to me. Brain and Heart.

As she wrote her fourth book, the dedication was on her mind. Would she have the guts to do it? Would he understand? In the end, she did it.

I love you. Right down to the Bones.

He understood. It had worked. So when it came to her next dedication, her fifth book being released a year and a half later, Temperance had no doubt in her mind as to what to put.

To Seeley Booth. Put the brain in neutral and the heart in overdrive. I love you.

He proposed within hours of the book being released. Two years later, at the release of her sixth book, Temperance was jittery with nerves waiting for him to read her next dedication.

To my wonderful husband Seeley. Because he's the baby daddy. Dancing phalanges. We love you.

When she handed him the very first copy of the book, he flipped straight to the dedication. He immediately looked up at her with wide eyes, and was met with a million-watt grin and a nod, confirming his assumptions. He'd dropped the book, taken her in his arms, and spun her round their living room.

After a four-year hiatus, Temperance Brennan was more nervous about her comeback than she was the dedication.

To my family. The family I never thought I'd have. Seeley, Hannah and baby Booth. I love you with all my heart.

Then another year later, another new, longer dedication and the welcoming new arrivals, along with old returns.

To Seeley, Hannah, Declan and Brooklyn. To Angela and Jack; Welcome to the world, Zack and Melanie. To Dr. Zackary Uriah Addy; welcome back. We missed you. To Cam and Jeremy, and Michelle and Perry, Congratulations.

After twenty years, the tales of Kathy and Andy finally came to an end. Temperance Brennan surprised everyone with her dedication.

For the victims. Because they never lie, and because without them, I would not be writing this right now.
