Peter Pettigrew never expected much from anyone, especially himself. He was proud to say that he was a marauder, but other than that he was perfectly fine living in the shadows of his friends.

He was a generally nice person, a bit plump for his size and had uncanny mouse like features, but he did seem to have a heart of gold.

He never really participated in pranks; just watched James and Sirius with delight, always there to compliment the two boys.

Peter never thought much of the way he was treated; mostly regarding it as normal for a teenage boy to be have a battered and bruised ego once in awhile. He never thought any different when his friends would pick at his insecurities, which weren't really insecurities at all. Peter was just oblivious to them.

He was not the smartest, the cutest, or the slyest boy in the marauders. He could just be known as the faithful mutt that followed them around.

Being oblivious really had its perks. Peter never had to feel the pain, never had to have tears drip down his chubby face.

But one day, it just clicked.

Peter grew wiser in one night, finally viewing his friends in their true light. They were nasty people, each wanting to cause misery on others in his opinion. He was only around to be the one who would always be at the end of their jokes. He would be the one to take the blame on something he was not apart of at all. Most importantly, he was there just because there was no one else to fill the void.

He was just some kid that had been thrown into the mix on a whim. None of the boys seemed fond of him. Even Remus seemed a little apprehensive toward the boy and he was known for being the caring one. No, not any of his friends truly cared.

Maybe that's why on that faithful day he forsaken his long time hero. His mind flashed back to those school days. He never once spoke out against them, but he had his chance now. For all the torment he endured, he could strike back.

One would hate to admit it, but maybe ignorance truly is bliss.

Maybe Harry Potter would have grown up knowing the love of a mother and the comfort of a father.

Maybe, just maybe the world would be different if Peter Pettigrew stayed locked in his little world, never seeing the world's true colors.
