Unbound The Crooked Way
By SMYGO4EVA
Miko Nakadai very much gave the attending nurse and her host parents a heart attack.
When after lying comatose for three months, she let out a sharp cry of pain, body jerking in a sudden flash of fright, amber eyes fluttering in rapid succession.
Crimson optics.
A metallic, demonic form.
Jagged shoulders.
Teeth that were akin to incisors.
Hooved feet.
He was there.
Right in front of her.
No one could hear her.
Or him….
This being…
This monster….
Was he real?
No.
"Who-who are you? What are you?"
"You're not real."
"Am I?"
"You're such some weird, creepy figment of my imagination – you can't be!"
"Oh but I am, human. More real than you would care to admit. I have conquered worlds and slain the mightiest of warriors, so it would be best if you keep silent."
"I don't believe you for one second."
"Oh you'll see…"
She's lost it.
What's going on?
Take the pill.
"I'm telling the truth!"
This won't hurt.
Who is this?
Have you gone mad?
Being…
Conquering worlds?
She's lost her mind.
"Let me out!
I swear – he is real!"
A dark chuckle erupted from the being.
"You – you monster!"
"Reckless and impulsive – a fitting challenge for me, human."
A clawed hand reached out.
Around her throat.
Twist.
"Le-Let go!"
"We'll see, little Miko…"
Air was escaping her.
Her lungs constricted.
A nightmare of the dark form was becoming reality.
Her hands tried to pry the monster's claws away from her neck, but it was to no avail.
Her world turned black.
She collapsed in the middle of class that day, and everyone was wondering what was going on before they had to call the ambulance.
Was it because of exhausting? A pre-existing condition?
No.
She was breathing.
But she wasn't waking up.
She managed to be stabilized before she was admitted to the hospital.
A long wait for good news then took place.
Three months later, she awoke.
First, it was the sound of hushed voices, a faint whisper as if she was trapped in a void and it came from beyond.
Then it was a sensation of warmth, resting upon her shoulders, lying over her chest, warming her from the inside out in a fashion she had never felt before.
Months.
Miko was now edging closer and closer to reality.
To going back to who she once was.
Not any moment soon.
For him…
…The being, the dark form.
The demon…
He still was there in her mind.
"Monster…."
"Here I am, Miko..."
