A/N: Yo! So, I know that Naruto ended, but that doesn't mean I can't write about it, right? Right!
Enjoy!
"Hey, Itachi-san. I think we should stop here. It's getting late and this is a nice clearing," Kisame said. It really wasn't a "nice" clearing- the grass was so dry it was brown and the trees were ugly and twisted- but neither of them cared. They had been traveling for hours and needed a break.
Itachi nodded. He moved toward the least lumpiest tree and sat against it. Kisame started a fire and sat down across from him. They didn't have any other food except ration bars, and neither of them felt like eating them. Itachi waited until Kisame fell asleep, then closed his eyes.
Itachi awoke with a jolt. He had a nightmare, and it wasn't like his usual ones. His usual ones consisted of him either killing his clan again, Shisui yelling at him for not saving the clan, or the coup d'etat being a sucess. But this one was completely different. In this nightmare, Danzo was torturing an eight-year-old Sasuke while Itachi had to watch and couldn't do anything about it.
Itachi looked up and saw that Kisame was still sleeping. He was glad. If Kisame saw him like this he would have a whole lot of explaining to do.
After Itachi made sure Kisame was still sound asleep he went back to thinking about his dream. Dread filled his being as he thought about it. What if Danzo was torturing Sasuke, he just wasn't aware? What if the torture was the real reason why Sasuke left the Leaf for Orochimaru?
No. No. That's not possible. Itachi made double sure that no harm would come to Sasuke. Even when the Third Hokage died, Itachi came back just to warn Danzo.
But Danzo also couldn't be the one hurting Sasuke. What if Orochimaru was hurting him?
Wait, he already did.
But he could be hurting him more. Or Kabuto could be. Or-
Stop it, Itachi. Itachi mentally told himself. Sasuke is fine. You made sure of that. He's OK.
And with that in his head, Itachi went back to sleep.
