Lucas and Tim walked up and stopped in front of the big, stone building. Tim strode partway up the steps and turned, waiting for the teen, who still stood down below.
"C'mon, Lucas. We don't have much time,"Tim urged impatiently.
"I don't know, Tim. Do you really think this is a good idea," Lucas questioned skeptically. He moved up the stairs to meet Tim and they walked the rest of the way together, side by side.
Pulling open the massive wooden doors, Tim gestured for the teen to enter and then followed him in. "I'm not sure what else to do. There's a knot at the end of my rope and I'm barely hanging on." His voice dropped to a whisper as they made their way to the front.
"It's been a long time since I came to a place like this. Guess I'm desperate enough to try anything too." Lucas also dropped the volume of his voice. "Ever since he dropped my rank, he's made my life a living hell." Lucas looked in wide eyed wonder at his surrounding in spite of himself. "I'm sorry I pulled the gun on him, but what else was I suppose to do?" He asked glumly.
They made their way into the first pew. Tim dropped to his knees and crossed himself, but Lucas simply sat on the bench, staring at the gigantic cross hanging in back of the altar.
"Dear God, I know it's been awhile," the teen prayed to himself, "but please, could you get Hudson transferred to another boat? I promise to stop looking at all of Tony's adult magazines if you do."
Opening his eyes, he saw Tim still had his head bowed, lips moving silently and felt his body relax in the peaceful tranquility. What the heck, he thought, it couldn't hurt to try.
