Grief

Author's Note: This is my take on how Obi feels at Qui-Gon's death. I changed what may have exactly been said. NO ONE may steal this.

Obi-Wan couldn't believe it. His Master was dying at his feet. Dying! The thought struck him with a blow. "You mustn't. You can't! It is wrong! Horrible!" Tears started to form in his eyes.

Struggling to talk, Qui-Gon spoke, "My Padawan. You are ready for-" his voice broke off. "for-for the Test. You will not fail!"

Obi-Wan's tears started streaming down his face. He shouldn't cry! It was un-Jedi of him. A Jedi must always stand tall and emotionless. But this was too much. Seeing his Master lying on the floor dying shattered Obi's heart into a million pieces and scattered those pieces on the floor.

"Master I-" he began to say but Qui-Gon stopped him.

"Obi-Wan. I-I want you to take-take my l-lightsaber. It is yours now. You must be strong Obi-Wan Kenobi. Strong."

Obi-Wan could see the Force fleeing from his Master. It would be minutes before he died. Perhaps even seconds.

"P-padawan. Y-you must train the Boy. You-" Qui-Gon's voice failed him, and he lay still.

"Nooooo!" Obi screamed. "Nooooo!" He pressed his forehead against Qui-Gon's cheek as the hot tears flowed freely now. Choking back sobs, Obi felt an unfamiliar presense. The presense of death.

Stepping away from Qui-Gon, he wiped away tears using his coarse, brown, cloak. Speaking under his breath, we whispered. "I will always remember you, Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Always." He picked up Qui-Gon's lightsaber, and with one last look, fled into the darkness of the shadows.

He did now know how to tell the boy. It was hard for Obi-Wan just to look at the boy's happy shining face as Anakin retold his accounts of being inside the fighter. Obi barely listened.

"And then," Anakin continued excitedly, "The whole thing just blew up! I had to get Artoo and me out of there so I-"

"Anakin," Obi inturrupted, "This story can be told at another time. I must tell you something. Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn is dead." Obi heard the crack in his voice at these words. He thought he would begin to cry again, but he realized that he must be strong- for the boy.

Anakin's cheery face went dark and sullen. He ran into Obi's outstretched arms, and began to weep. Obi himself wanted to cry along with Anakin, but instead he wiped Anakin's tears away and spoke softly. "There there. A Jedi Knight does not cry Anakin."

"But But what will I do about my training?" he asked.

"I will train you. And you shall be my Padawan, young Anakin. And together, we will be Padawan and Master. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker."
