Oniichan Complex

"Call me 'big brother.'"

Iceland looked over his shoulder to see, once again, Norway pouring over him. Why won't he just give up?

"I'm not calling you that."

Norway could practically hear his younger brother grit his teeth at the very mention, but he didn't give up. Hiding a sad face behind his placid facade, he asked softly,

"Please, why won't you?"

Iceland hated it. Why would he have to call Norway that, why should he? Even if he was bigger than him, physically and geographically, and even, yes, if they were brothers, what was the significance of it? He gritted his teeth even more. "I won't."

"You promised, through, Iceland." Norway replied, trying not to sound hurt. "It's alright, I'll just tease Denmark, then."

The said nation almost choked, and looked at him,"Why me!?"

Finland looked sympathetically at his fellow Nordic. "This is why you should stop getting free drinks out of people." He patted his back.

Iceland gritted his teeth at his brothers attitude. Even Mr. puffin would fly away with that attitude.

"Being called 'big brother' is nice," Norway suggested. "Even 'oniichan' is good enough." Does he think I'm arrogant?

"No."

"Aww…" This time it was Finland talking. "But why?"

Because I am not your little brother, nor are you my big brother. I am not a child anymore, thus you do not have to take care of me. All of these thoughts bounced endlessly around in his head, but none came out of his mouth. Instead came a simple lie:

"Because I don't want to."

Norway put a hand on his shoulder, giving his little brother a small pleading look in his eye.

" I don't see why he has to call you 'big brother.'" Sweden said, not looking up the book he was reading. He was extremely blunt, straight forward, and is not very good at reading the atmosphere, but Iceland was happy that he had someone on his side.

Norway felt a small pang of a strange feeling. Was it sadness? Maybe. He had never really known what it was, but every time Iceland refused to called him even 'oniichan' the feeling got worse. He didn't want Iceland to betray him, not to lose him, ever…

Finally gaining confidence, the smaller Nordic country asked in a mocking tone, "You want me to say as promised, brother dear? Older brother?" He smirked, "I will not."

Norway felt a pang of happiness. At least he had said the word. He looked into his brother's violet eyes. He was happy with was he saw.

He saw challenging looked, mixed with,

The tiniest bit,

Of respect.

I'll make you submit, because you honestly like me.

Iceland looked at his brother. For him, being happy and comfortable, it all relies on when I call him 'big brother. "You're too old to say that, I can't imagine it…"

Norway had similar thoughts, He doesn't see the satisfaction of calling me big brother.

A smile creeped on his face. "Why don't you try saying it now? " Where are you dissatisfied?

Iceland sigh. Stupid, stubborn, Norway. "At this point I should just run away, but I know you'll never give up."

A sigh of defeat.

"Big brother, if I don't say it, I'll never hear the end of this."

"And you still won't. Do it again."

"What?"

"Big brother."

Iceland groaned, putting his face in his hand, but didn't dare let him see the smile on his face. "Shouldn't have said anything."

"It wouldn't have helped."

Both at the same time, the two thought, I am almost at my limit, with you, you know.
