They met under odd circumstances.

Once they needed a fighter class gem to help transport upper class gems into Homeworld safely. No big deal, this was something rubies did. Although, they had a sapphire tag along because of the threats they were receiving. Obviously because of her future insight.

They ended up getting along really well. Ruby was always awkward meeting new people, not to mention her spilling out, 'wow, you're pretty' when Sapphire first introduced herself. That was one thing she did not see coming. In fact Ruby was always being unpredictable. That's why they got along so well.

They hung out practically any time they were not working. It was a new feeling for them both. Having someone to actually care about. Homeworld wasn't big on friendships, but it wasn't exactly outlawed. Romantic relationships on the other hand were, but there were a lot of people who just hid them very well.

Eventually ,Ruby had to address what she was feeling….and she practically self combusted. They were under stars, surrounded by trees. A place they felt very safe. Ruby certainly knew Sapphire was perfect, they both knew how flawed Homeworld was.

Sitting up straighter next to Sapphire,

Ruby stuttered, "S-Sap-phire?"

"Yes?" Sapphire replied with many different possibilities running through her mind. Getting slightly anxious for her answer. She cared so much about Ruby she was all she could think about thoughout the day. Making sure she was always safe.

"I think, I like you," Ruby jumbled out," I mean, ugh, I know I like you. I mean, really, like more than like you Sapphire. I care about you a lot." Ruby was hot enough in that moment to start a forest fire. Or almost.

"Ha- Ruby, I, feel the same way," Sapphire spoke this with the brightest smile forming on her face. Ruby ran straight at her, picked her up and span her around. Sapphire let out small giggles, unable to take her huge smile off her face. Ruby's heart was racing staring at what she felt was the most beautiful thing she's ever laid eyes on.

Things continued with them sneaking around, meeting each late at nights. Their feelings getting stronger every day. By now a many have heard about the Rose Quartz rebellion. What it was about wasn't completely clear to most. All most people knew about was that she loved love and Earth. Her army was slowly growing. Ruby and Sapphire both agreed on what she believes in, they just feel it's an unreachable goal. It's safer just to stay put. Things were getting sullen with the thought that this is all they will amount to. Getting to see each other once every few days, worrying that the other was safe. That no one found out about them.

So here they meet again, in their usual spot, expressing their mutual exhaustion. Laying down in the forest floor, surrounded by darkness.

"Ruby?" Sapphire spoke.

"Yeah, Sapphire?" Ruby turned to face her blue companion.

"I love you" Sapphire smiled.

Ruby grinned back, "I love you, too" she hugged Sapphire close. They swore they both felt like they were glowing, they were so happy an, as cheesy as it sounds, in love.

But they really did glow. Into a single being.

"I-I… Can't believe it. We-I really… Fused?"

Ow! They split apart not knowing what to do.

Sapphire fretted,"I'm sorry! We've taken this too far!"

Ruby shouted with excitement ,"What! That was amazing! Sapphire, I love you! This is great!"

"No, Ruby. What will happen to us if Homeworld finds out about this?" Sapphire was saddened, she really did wish they could be together some way.

Ruby was quite for a moment, then had an idea, "Then maybe it's time we leave Homeworld."
