"This past Friday, two teens in the same town committed suicide by hanging themselves…"
"This episode again?" Tai asked out loud. She loved Criminal Minds but they repeated the same episodes to much. By now she knows enough to be a profiler herself. Even though she's the only one she needs to profile.
She had spent the entire day lying on the couch watching episodes she's seen five times each already. But she couldn't bring herself to do anything. There were no missions; no one threw any parties…
She rolled onto her back and stared at the ceiling. So many dangerous serial killers… all psychopaths… taking lives without an ounce of control or remorse… And they all deserve to be locked up forever.
I'm the same. A merciless uncontrollable killer… I deserve to—
"Hey."
Tai pulled her shirt down as Kid leaned over the back of the symmetrical couch, first looking at the TV then down at her.
"Still watching Criminal Minds?"
"Nothing else to do."
"Well, yeah, unless you wanna do something? Maybe practice team resonance or just play a game… maybe check all of the picture frames—"
"No, Kid, I do not want to fix your damn picture frames."
Kid decided it'd be best not to pester her. He was tempted to see what was wrong but this behavior had been going on for a while… he figured she was just still getting used to the new lifestyle.
"You know, I'm going to go for a walk." She got up slowly then walked to the door, sliding on her black and white sneakers.
"Where you going?"
"…To that place where you can see all of Death City. I just need to clear my mind is all."
"Okay… see you."
"…I love you."
Kid's mind did a double-take. Wha…?
"Uhm, what? I didn't catch—"
"Thank you for bringing me to Death City. Thanks… for everything."
"Uhm, oka—" He was interrupted by the sound of the door slamming.
Odd…
Kid looked up at the TV. Criminal Minds was Tai's favorite show. She watched it every day…
Not most teenage girls' favorite shows have to do with psychotic serial killers…
Then again, Tai isn't a normal teenage girl.
He figured she liked it because she could relate… in her life before fate (or a mission from his father) brought Kid to Rainy Town, she had been completely controlled by insanity, and killed many humans. Their souls weren't eaten, but she still greatly regrets every single drop of blood she had spilled in that time. This was why he was assigned to watch over her and help her control her insanity, and become a Shibusen Meister…
It was then he realized he never just sat and watched this show with her before. He decided he at least owed her that, and then when she got back he'd watch the rest of them with her until they went to sleep. He took a seat on the couch, adjusting his placement so he was directly in the middle of the cushion. Satisfied, he let his attention shift to the conversing FBI agents on the screen.
"None of these children showed any of the normal signs. No depressing behavior, they didn't seem distant from family members, no random proclamations of love…"
"Random proclamations of love?"
"Sometimes in the days leading up to suicide a person will randomly blurt out 'I love you' to family or friends, as a sort of goodbye."
Kid's eyes widened.
Depressing and distant behavior… and random—
"…I love you."
"Thank you for bringing me to Death City. Thanks… for everything."
"…To that place where you can see all of Death City. I just need to clear my mind is all."
The shinigami shot up from his seat, eyes huge and terrified and pupils smaller then the point of a needle.
Oh God No.
He ran to the door and flung it open, only to barely avoid running into his father.
Chichiue…? He's supposed to at the school; with Spirit… please tell me he just happened to be early… please…
"Oh, Kiddo, I was just… Kiddo-kun, something's happened…"
Oh God No…
