Rebecca McClannahan retched violently, emptying her stomach of the last of the light breakfast she had eaten earlier that morning.
She felt miserable.
Her head hurt, her eye was sore, her nose was stuffed up, and now her stomach was most definitely not pleased.
She hadn't gotten much sleep lately, and it was finally catching up to her.
Unfortunately, rest looked like it would be a long time coming.
She had things to do.
She was in the process of moving, and there was so much left to do.
All she wanted was to curl up and sleep for a week, but plans had already been made, and they couldn't be changed. She'd already driven hours today, in a seemingly endless back and forth, and she'd have to do the same tomorrow.
She didn't have time to be sick.
As she laid on the cool tile of the bathroom floor, Becky tried to will her stomach to settle, but it just wasn't working.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, shattering what small semblance of peace she'd managed to find in between retching episodes.
As she drug herself to the door, she cursed whoever was outside.
When she finally opened the door, however, the sight that greeted her shocked her into a stunned silence, her nausea momentarily forgotten.
A delivery man stood on her step, holding out a beautiful flower arrangement in a small pot, complete with miniature teddy bear on one side and adorned with a large purple bow.
Becky took the arrangement and thanked the man, who stepped away hastily.
As the weary woman set her gift on the counter, she took the small card from it to see who had sent her this unexpected gift. When her eyes fell upon the handwriting on the folded slip of paper, she couldn't stop the smile that spread over her face. There was no way she would mistake that writing, and the message only confirmed the sender's identity.
Beck- Sam said you were feeling a little under the weather. I know you've got a lot going on, so I thought a little pick me up was in order. Hope you feel better soon. The bear might help in the meantime. See you soon. -Daniel
After she read the note at least six times, Becky looked more closely at the arrangement itself. It took only a second before she found what Daniel had sent to help. Tucked neatly between the paws of the little bear was a travel-sized bottle of Pepto-Bismol.
Dr. McClannahan smiled again, twisted the lid off the bottle, and slugged down two swallows of the vile pink liquid. She was already feeling better, and while that had nothing to do with the medicine, she thought that she just might make it through her weekend after all.
