Betty Cooper had spent her entire life trying to be perfect. She did everything she possibly could to ensure that she was the perfect daughter of Alice and Hal Cooper, the perfect little sister to Chic and Polly. Any mistake made by her older siblings however always seemed to fall on Betty's shoulders. She felt trapped everyday in her life, the only escape being the times she would spend at Pop's with Archie and Jughead, enjoying milkshakes and basking in their innocence and youth.
Something about that Saturday morning felt different to Betty though, possibly that her mother surprisingly had nothing untoward to say about Archie or Jughead, in fact it was almost as though she had woken in an alternate universe because her mother was nice about her best friends for the first time since they were children. Though that could have had something to do with how she was prattling on to her dad about some issue or another they could put in their newspaper, The Riverdale Register. Or it could have had something to do with the feeling deep inside Betty's gut that something was going to change, something big.
As her inner musings end she tunes back in to the conversation between her two-favourite people, as usual bickering about how they should spend their night, Juggy wanting to go to the drive-in and Archie wanting to go for an old-fashioned best friend night in their tree house.
"Okay you guys there's nothing to fight about, Juggy..." she looks into his eyes with a sweet smile "Last week we went to the drive in for your choice, the week before that we spent Saturday night at Jason and Cheryl's party because I begged you both to come. This week it's Archie's turn to choose our Saturday night plans." Archie whoops loudly, grabbing the attention of some of Pop's other customers, while Jughead slouches in his chair crossing his arms, one step away from pouting as Betty giggles at his petulance. All their attention however is snatched away from their moment by the bell ringing as the door swings open, revealing two impeccably dressed beautiful women; obviously mother and daughter.
The two strangers draw the attention of all patrons of the Chock 'lit Shoppe, most notably though is that of the youngest Cooper child, her green eyes traveling the length of the younger woman, from the heels that adorn her feet, up the pristine dress hugging her body, lingering on the pearls delicately placed around her neck, until they connect with chocolate eyes and a smirk. Immediately Betty's eyes look down as a red hue colours her pale cheeks.
Archie's stare remains on the beautiful woman, while her eyes are firmly trained on the mysterious blonde whom she caught staring and whose stare seemed to set her alight. His eyes fall back to the table as he takes a sip of his milkshake "Can more strangers that look like her turn up in town please" He mumbles to himself as Jughead rolls his eyes,
"Are you not even going to question who she is before you decide you want her Archie?" He grumbles.
As their bickering once again starts, Betty's eyes lift and glance at the beautiful brunette who has not only encapsulated Archie but her as well, but what she did not expect was to find said brunette's eyes already on her. Unfortunately for her, another unexpected situation was seemingly about to occur, as she began to approach the trio's booth with a tentative smile and clicking heels.
The low argument between the boys stopped as they discovered a fourth presence by their table, Archie (of course, thought both Jughead and Betty) introduced himself first, "Hey! I'm Archie Andrews, and this is Jughead Jones and Betty Cooper" Jughead offering a grimace like smile when his name is spoken while Betty nervously meets the eyes of the brunette, hoping to learn her name as they smile at each other.
"It's a pleasure to meet the three of you, I am Veronica Lodge, and my mother over ordering food is Hermione. We just moved into the Pembrooke."
'Veronica…' Betty thinks 'What a lovely name and she has such a nice voice' she sighs mentally as her eyes watch Archie practically fawn over Veronica, well that's what she would like to think, because she likes Archie, not this mysterious beautiful stranger. Doesn't she?
Her inner panic is suddenly jolted as her phone starts to blare 'Hey Soul Sister' by Train, Polly's ringtone, she grabs her phone bringing it to her ear "Hey Pol… yeah, I'm just at Pop's with Juggy and Arch. I don't want to go to church with you and the Blossom's. Because Cheryl is a bully and will find something to terrorise me about, even in church. Why can't Chic go? He isn't scared of churches but fine, I'll go with you." Betty huffs as she hangs up her phone leaning her head back against the back of her seat grumbling about having to spend a prolonged amount of time around Cheryl Blossom.
Her eyes quickly open at the light giggle coming from her right, locking eyes immediately with Veronica who is looking at her "Rough phone call?" She asks sweetly.
"You have no idea, just wait until you meet 'cherrybombshell' yourself." Betty huffs as Jughead snorts beside her "Oh and sorry about that, it's nice to meet you Veronica" she smiles sweetly up at the girl.
Veronica's attention is stolen when her mother calls her name, sitting at a booth at the other end of the diner with their food on the table. "It was nice to meet all of you. Here" she grabs Betty's phone, inputting her number into it and sending a text to herself "We can all meet up later or tomorrow after your appointment with God Betty." She winks at the blonde and says her goodbyes to the trio, going to join her mother for lunch. Leaving the two thirds of the trio wondering why, even when gone they cannot think of anything but her, and the other about what food they may have at church if he attended with Betty the next day.
All of them had one thought at almost the exact same time however, when Jughead stopped thinking about food 'Life just got a whole lot more interesting in Riverdale due to the arrival of the Lodge women' despite knowing nothing about them but their names and their Riverdale place of residence.
Betty for her part was staring at the newest contact in 'Hot Brunette ;)' part of her wondering how the introduction of Veronica Lodge was going to impact the perfect girl next door image of hers, the other part wishing the next time she gets to spend time with the girl to come quickly. Not knowing that this one girl will single-handedly flip everything Betty Cooper knows about herself around in a relatively short amount of time.
