Due to my non-interest in the Pokemon: Sun and Moon anime and how it sounds like Gen 8's already coming soon, I felt like I needed to move onto another anime franchise. Tbh, I'm just waiting for Gen 8 to come out so that they can hopefully make Ash and the next series not dopey looking.

So anyway, I finally checked out the first season of SAO (and the movie) recently and I liked it! Yes, it has some major flaws. Yes, it sounds like a fanfiction from this site. And yes, I can see why a lot of people don't like it because of the romance. But hey, Pokemon brought me back when Amourshipping was becoming huge and I dug into that.

Anyway, I've decided to do some SAO fanfics and this crossover will be the 1st.

Enjoy!

"Game over, Kirito!"

Those were the final words from my opponent. My farewell message from the man who had been playing me and ten thousand other players in the virtual gaming world of Sword Art Online. The Game Master of the game and captain of the Knights of the Blood guild, Heathcliff, but his player ID was Kayaba Akihiko.

I thought I could be a hero. I thought I could save everyone who got trapped in SAO by bringing them all back to the real world and out of their hospital beds. But most importantly, I thought I could save "her". A female player who I fell in love and lived with for two years. The sub-leader of the guild who was about to witness my demise as I held a broken sword, awaiting for my foe's blade slice my life away.

But then, the strike was intercepted by someone else. Someone who I wished didn't get harmed by Kayaba or anyone for that matter. My heart stopped by the sight of the Sub-leader's long orange hair swaying towards me as I witnessed my opponent slashing her in the chest. Overwhelmed by my worst fear becoming real, I grabbed my "wife" and saw her life bar deplete to nothingness.

"Asuna…."

"You can't…"

"It can't be." I sobbed.

My in-game "wife" began glowing as she turned her head with tears flowing down her face. Her warm smile was shown to me, but it wasn't enough to cheer me up from what was coming next. No matter what she was gonna say, she couldn't escape becoming another victim in his hellish game. She knew that her spirit was going to join the other fallen players in heaven.

"I'm sorry."

"Goodbye." Asuna smiled.

Like my heart shattering into pieces, Asuna exploded into a million bits of data. A million pieces that once formed the teenage girl I loved so much was nothing more like snow falling down. Sadness consumed me as I tried to grab some pieces, but it became impossible to collect them all. Asuna had been digitized along with her memories. Just the thought of it made collaspe on my knees in deep sorrow.

"Your light has been extinguished."

A voice was then heard nearby, causing me to slowly get back on my feet. At first I thought it was Kayaba taunting me to continue our duel, but even he wasn't harsh. Instead, I found somebody else standing in front of me.

"Is your heart breaking?"

"Huh?" I muttered.

The person who was speaking to me was my own worst enemy. Upon looking at his black coat and main sword, it felt like I was looking into a mirror. A reflection of myself was staring at me with disgust as I noticed that Kayaba had somehow disappeared. In fact, all the other players who were all watching the duel were nowhere to be seen. It was just my shadow and I in a gloomy battle area.

"Wh-who are you?" I asked.

"You should have learned your lesson after Sacchi died two years ago."

"Now Asuna, your love is no more."

"Because of your foolish actions."

Just hearing those words made my heart jump. I didn't want to believe it, but deep down "he" was right. It was I who sent my own guild into a raid and led Sacchi, my first love to die. Two years later, history repeated itself as I foolishly exposed Kayaba's identity by attacking him after we all took down a boss. I thought if I defeat him, I could save everyone. Unfortunately, Asuna intercepted his attack made me lose the will to go on.

"Your reckless behavior has cost your love ones to perish."

"And now your heart has an empty space." My shadow exclaimed, pointing at my heart with his sword.

"My heart is empty?" I repeated.

"But don't worry, I'll be happy to send you to Asuna on the other side!"

Before I could even react, it was too late. The sword impaled me through the heart, giving me a rude awakening. An awakening that brought me back into reality.

"Gah!"

I jumped from the comfort of my pillow, only to find out that I was back in the real world. I had returned from a nightmare I was having from the safety of my own bed.

"It was all just a dream." I consoled myself, plopping my head back onto my pillow.

"And it's only 4:03." I groaned, looking at the digital clock sitting next to the PC.

With only three hours left till sunrise, it felt unnecessary to go back to sleep. Apart of me was afraid that I was going back to that dream and experience it all over again. Nobody should witness a tragic moment like that more than once in their lives. Rather than going back to sleep, I spotted the next best alternative to rest my mind. Sitting next to my PC was a black virtual reality headset with the word "Nervegear" engraved on the front of it. I grabbed it and decided to use it to send me to my second home.

"Link start!"

Now I'm still going to do some more Pokemon fanfics, but I'm a little burnt out with that franchise. The way the SM anime is going and how fast Gen 8 could be coming just makes me want to take a break from the franchise. Also, I just find Ash a complete joke in SM and am praying Gen 8 will be another serious generation.
