Chapter 1 – A Crash Landing
Wheeeeeeeeeee! I'm flying through space now! In a spaceship! And it's so fun! I can feel the planets, galaxies, and stars whizzing by (no wait, I'mthe one whizzing by) and hear the wonderful rhythm of the swirly time and space thing!
It's so fun, but I really miss my "dad". He promised to take me along on his adventures, but then I got shot in the chest and everyone thought I was dead. By the time I woke up, he and his two companions (Martha and Donna, right?) were already gone. If only he stuck around for just a few more minutes…
Anyway, here I am, in a spaceship, traveling through the universe alone. Of course, I do hope I meet my dad someday, and I hope that someday is soon.
Then all of a sudden, it feels like I'm orbiting a planet orbiting a really, really big star. Hmm, I wonder what that planet looks like? I open the hatch and look outside.
And it strikes me with awe and wonder. It's full of red and green and blue, and white streaks of clouds covering the sky. The oceans are—hold on, I'm in space, right? Without a mask? How am I breathing? Wait, I'm not even breathing at all! All of a sudden I panic, and I notice that I'm still alive. Apparently, this is something Time Lords do. Anyway, I decide to land there.
And what a whoosh it was! The vegetation seems to get bigger and bigger until I slow down my spaceship to a gentle halt a foot above the ground. Then I jump down and feel the tickle of blue grass below my feet.
And it seems I managed to land near a beach too. Not far away, there is a stretch of sand, with the ocean waves calmly rushing back and forth. And it seems that I'm not the first one here. I see a curly haired woman and a man, both in plain shirts and shorts, with their backs to me. They're sitting by the beach, watching the sunset—all hues of blue and red and pink and violet. There are two women farther along the beach, apparently playing in the sand. The couple seems to enjoy the sight, and I can't help but move closer to them.
Then all of a sudden, I hear a deep, loud moan from the ocean. Curious, I move even closer, and I see a creature I've never seen before. It has a long body, and it has these long, flappy things on its sides, with one end looking like a paddle. I think the other end is its head, because it has eyes and a mouth. And it opens its mouth and shoots a colorful stream of water into the air as it jumps. The water change in color and shape, and I see suns, trees, and other things I don't know. And the woman shouts, "Oh Doctor, this is the most wonderful trip we've ever had! It's Jim the Fish! Oh, how you never cease o amaze me! And to think I was only expecting a sunset on the ocean!"
Doctor…no, it can't be…
"Of course River, I've got a time machine! Sunsets are fun. But sunsets with Jim the Fish are cooler! Like bow ties! And fezzes! And that's why I took you here again!" goes the man. But this isn't the Doctor I remembered. He seems so jumpy and hyperactive and…younger. Yet somehow, at the back of my mind, I just knowthat he's the Doctor. My dad.
Then the Doctor turns around and sees me…
…and he looks surprised, like he's seen a ghost.
"Jenny?"
