I don't love you. I can't love you. I'm pretending not to love you. Please, let me love you.

Swirling thoughts that relentlessly filled her mind when they were running together, when she would see his boyish smile, or when he would straighten his bow tie when he was proud of an accomplishment he made.

-"One day you meet the Doctor and, of course, it's the best day ever. It's just the best day of your life. Because – because he's brilliant, and he's funny, and mad. And best of all, he really needs you. The trick is, don't fall in love. I do that trick quite a lot. Sometimes twice a day."-

She resisted him at first, then she gave in and really did just jump in his snogbox and fly away. Definitely against her better judgment, but in meeting the Doctor she had learned so much about herself, about him, about the many universes and creatures that inhabit those unknown, unseen worlds.

Running with the Doctor was an experience, and he never frightened her. Not much, anyway. But after all, he was indeed a madman with a box.

Clara never expected to fall for him. After time, she realized she fancied him. Upon first meeting him, he was just a strange man but did everything in his power to keep her safe. Maybe a small part of her had developed a crush on him then. He was drawn to her for reasons she didn't understand until they experienced the events at Trenzalore. Then it all made sense.

Then they were closer than ever after that. Hand holding without saying a word to the other. Sensing the comfort one needed. Slowing down on the traveling and focusing on the well-being of each other. He hadn't left her side much after she entered his time stream. Sometimes he would hold her, other times he would have to wake her up in the middle of the night when she suffered nightmares.

The Doctor had traveled with many companions over his years, many women. Clara could never figure out if the way he acted was the way he behaved with everyone or if she was special in anyway to him.

He could be hot and cold. Calling her his impossible girl, his Clara. As if she belonged to him. She couldn't ever be his, could she is? Humans and Time Lords didn't mix. Some would say it was forbidden. She would die long before he would even start aging. If he even aged at all. He just changed into someone else.

Then, other days he would refer to her no more than his assistant or associate it. It was so impersonal and a little hurtful. She had to be more than that to him.

Ultimately she was the saver of his world, all his lives, so he could do his duty and protect all the literal worlds out there.

He was an amazing man, brilliant and caring. Her Doctor.

But I can't have you, I can't need you, I can't love you. Never change.
