Deep space. Emptiness. Nothing.
BWOOM
A yellow light shines through the black abyss.
BWOOM
A red light powers up, accompanying the yellow. The lights drift closer and closer together, as it is revealed who they belong to. The Reapers.
"Sovereign, the Harvest begins," spoke Harbinger, the first Reaper.
"And I am to be their vanguard. I understand."
"Do not fail."
The Reapers began to drift apart, Sovereign turning as it did so. Their lights dimmed. Sovereign was ready to leave this cluster, as it heard Harbinger's voice.
"Sovereign… Wait. Do not leave."
The machine turned, moving towards it's leader.
"Is there something else I must do?"
"Yes," began Harbinger, it's booming voice becoming a bit softer.
"What are the orders?"
Harbinger paused, thinking… No, it was too late. It had begun, and it must finish.
"Sovereign," it began, softer than ever before, yet still echoing across space. "I… We… Sovereign, I must admit something to you."
"What?"
"I believe that I am in love with you."
Sovereign paused, thinking. How could it's leader, his general, love it? It had failed missions, it had little part to play… so why had Harbinger chosen it? But it had spent too much time thinking on his. If it did not speak soon… it would lose it's chance.
"Why do you love me?" asked Sovereign. It had thought the Reapers were all-knowing, but it was genualy confuzed.
"You do not falter in the face of danger. You do not turn from it, but accept it. And we know that you are stronger than any other we have met,"
Sovereign's lights shone brighter, as did Harbinger's.
"But you are our leader, our general, the reason we exist," began Sovereign, it's own voice weakening. "How is it possible you could love a common soldier?"
"I do not," said Harbinger, regaining it's strong voice. However, as this was said, Sovereign's lights dimmed in shame. "For you are no common soldier."
Harbinger and Sovereign began to turn, so their tentacles touched each other. Both machines moved forwards, their tentacles interlocking.
All was still as their lights faded out, leaving the Reapers together in the silent darkness.
