Prologue
The rain spat through the shattered, mouldy windows of the dilapidated apartment complex, the doors were thick with rust and as Toshiko ran her finger along the frames of the windows her finger became blackened with thick soot. She was quite sure that the soot that lined the crevices of her thumbprint was many years old. She looked down at the blackened body on the floor, still lying in the pool of black blood in which they found it. She sighed and took out her phone, she switched it on and scrolled through to her quick dial list, Jack, she pressed call.
"Jack, uh, are you…, busy?"
"Tosh, just give me 30 seconds."
"Urm… sure."
Tosh twiddled with a button on her coat as the phone chimed out "Please hold". The phone reconnected again and she could hear Jack scrabbling around to reach for it.
"Hello…?" Jack said from the other end of the phone.
"Jack, see… well. I'm at the Tiger Bay apartment complex. There's been a body reported by the caretaker, he was taking the buyers around and it was right where it is now by the trapdoor. Anyway, it's covered in a non-human, blackish liquid."
"Listen Tosh, I will be there AS SOON as possible, don't get into any trouble."
Tosh walked out of the rusty, decayed door of the complex. She walked over to her old VW Golf, its colour just like that of a tomato and its leather seats peeling with age. She sat down in the driver's seat and locked herself in. She didn't feel safe here, the fact it was completely deserted, surrounded by only a few other buildings and then nothing for a mile. It was the typical scenario for that of a horror film, an old building, practically a shack where the ghosts of those who came before rested, ready to take your soul from you.
She pulled out a thick book Sherlock Holmes: The man behind the fall. She turned to her saved page and continued to read. After what seemed like a day, she was disturbed from her book by a knock on the window, well I say a knock more of a sort of drunk shove. It was Jack and it seemed as if he was up to his old tricks. He was utterly, completely drunk and out of control. She unlocked the car and got out. She gave Jack the almightiest slap she had ever dealt anybody, it was all very well that he and Ianto had only been married a few weeks. She was fed up of him staying up all night and returning to work in the morning with a hangover, but this was too far. It was bad enough him being unable to focus, he wasn't any use AT ALL in the state he was in right now.
So that was it, she wasn't going to bother phoning Ianto, he would be drunk as well and the whole situation would probably slowly turn into a shouting match between Tosh and the "hopeless romantics" that were Ianto and Jack.
