Is it possible to hear a butterfly's wings flutter? For some odd reason, Sanzo thought so. He was amazed at the sounds that surrounded him. For once, Goku wasn't chatting at one hundred miles a minute. Even he was impressed by the sounds of nature.
They had chosen a spot near the lake for their picnic that afternoon. The sun was high in the sky, warming their skin and the air around them. Sanzo had actually taken off his socks and shoes, enjoying the feel of the grass blades between his toes, while Goku went about setting up the picnic.
He first laid out the checkered blanket he had borrowed from Hakkai and was about to set out the food when Sanzo stopped him.
"Not yet. Let's just sit for a while."
Goku obliged him and sat down, stretching his legs out in front and leaned back on his elbows. Sanzo took that opportunity to move the picnic basket out of Goku's reach. He then sat down, laying his head in the younger man's lap.
The silence was wonderful, as far as Sanzo was concerned. He had never felt so at peace. He let the warmth of the sun and the gentle sounds of the lake lull him to sleep.
He woke some time later to the growling of Goku's stomach. "All right, monkey" he said sitting up. He reached over and picked up the picnic basket, setting it beside Goku. He then lay back down, returning his head to its original position in Goku's lap.
Goku pulled out a number of small, covered bowls, setting them aside. He removed the lid of one and, grunting his approval, pulled out a grape. Sanzo lifted an eyebrow as the brunette placed it in front of his mouth.
He smiled, opening his mouth and accepting the offered fruit. Goku continued to feed him grapes until the container was empty. He then pulled open another covered container, this one containing sliced pears, and fed them to the blonde.
This went on for some time, until Sanzo sat up, "That's enough. I think I'm full". He looked into golden eyes and smiled. "Thank you". Goku's eyes smiled back at him.
A short while later, they gathered up the empty containers and refolded the blanket. After placing everything back in the picnic basket, they made their way home.
Halfway to the door, Goku stops and touches Sanzo's arm. Sanzo raises his hand to Goku's face, caressing his cheek. He then pulls it taut and, with his other hand, rips the tape from Goku's mouth.
"Dammit! That hurt Sanzo!" Goku yells, patting his lips with his fingertips.
"Let that be a lesson to you for betting against me. Although, I must admit, this day really was very pleasant". He walked towards the door, opening it and waiting for Goku. The younger man, mumbling obscenities under his breath, was stopped from his tirade by a soft kiss on the temple.
"Thanks again" Sanzo said, before walking inside.
Goku stared at his back, a smile starting to form on his lips. However, pain suddenly flooded there, reminding him that he had almost no skin left to do such things.
Happy 39-Day!!!
