"So," Prompto said, sidling up to Ignis and attempting to peek over his shoulder. "It's not just recipes that you write in that little book?"

Ignis snapped the book closed and tucked it away. "As far as you're concerned it contains the sum of all human knowledge." He looked at the hand Prompto had on his shoulder until the other got the hint and slowly removed it.

"Come on, you're always writing in it, I bet it's really interesting." Prompto pleaded.

Ignis began to walk away, going about his business as they set camp for the night. "I do suppose that the sum of all human knowledge would be rather interesting, however, I do not think you'd be capable of comprehending it." He began unpacking his grill. "As long as you're pestering me, give me a hand."

Prompto moved to help, unfolding and locking the legs into place. "You don't have to let me read it or anything, I just want to know what it's about in general."

"Well, it's about everything, of course." Ignis said entirely seriously. "I'm not sure how to further explain such an intricate topic without it becoming convoluted." As he continued to work Prompto helped, trying to pry.

"So, in that tiny little book, that you scribble in-"

"I hardly scribble, I'll have you know my handwriting is impeccable."

"-that you impeccably write in, that notebook, the one that fits in just one of your hands. You know, the notebook you use all the time, that one has everything in it?" Prompto asked, his disbelief clear in his words in the form of sarcastic emphasis.

Ignis straightened up, surveying their work. "You may as well call me a liar, and quite frankly, I'm offended." He turned to Prompto, arms folded casually over his chest. "However, I do thank you for your help, setting up went significantly quicker with your assistance."

Prompto stared in disbelief for a moment, as if he was now realizing he'd just been played. "You're welcome?"

"Run along now, I need to think about dinner. Make certain Noctis didn't strain himself sitting in that chair while we worked." Ignis shooed Prompto away, ending the conversation.

Prompto sulked across camp, dropping into the chair beside Noctis's.

"Nothing?" Noctis asked.

"Nothing." Prompto confirmed.

"I told you so." Noctis shook his head, "He's never answered a single question about that stupid book in years."

Prompto sighed, "He also conned me into helping him, and I'm pretty sure he called me stupid."

Noctis snorted with barely contained laughter. "I warned you."

"Yup."

"It was Prompto's turn to ask about the notebook today?" Gladiolus asked, laughing. "I'm sure that was good."

"Quite, I got more help than usual in assembling my cooking supplies." Ignis gestured to the now cold grill behind them as they sat in the firelight.

Gladiolus shook his head, laughing. "The poor kid had no idea what he was getting into."

"Well, then this will be a harsh lesson in reality for him, won't it?" Ignis pulled out his notebook, jotting down a few lines before tucking it away again.

"It's not like you're writing a bad romance novel, why don't you just tell them?" Gladiolus asked, waving in the direction the other two were off goofing around.

Ignis raised a single eyebrow.

"You're not, right?" Gladiolus looked concerned.

"Do you really want to know?" Ignis reached for his notebook, it came off as vaguely threatening.

"No, nope, nope I'm good." Gladiolus firmly refused. "I am not playing this game again, not after last time."
