Worth Living
Every day is a painful blur for Flint. Get up, eat, leave, look for Claus, go home, eat, shower, and go to bed. He doesn't feel emotionless, but as if everything he feels is muted. He leaves the house one day and while in the forest, just sits and wonders instead of searching for a lost boy who was probably dead.
He takes his knife out of its sheaf and wonders what it would be like to die.
Putting the blade to his throat he is hit with the sudden realization that if he slit his throat that Lucas would be completely alone. Lucas, who waited so patiently for him every day, would most likely be broken from the complete loss of family.
Flint takes the blade away from his neck, his hand still shaking with the fear of what he had almost done so selfishly. Putting the knife away, he heads for home much earlier than he has in the past weeks since half of his family had been ripped away.
Walking in the door, Lucas greets him with a surprised and slightly hopeful look. Pulling him into a hug, Flint shakes again. Lucas flinches slightly from the shock of being suddenly hugged (Flint swears to change that) but slowly relaxes and hugs him back.
Things begin to change after that. The father still leaves the house some days to go looking for Claus (or anything) but now there are days where he will stay home with Lucas. He and Lucas will just spend time together doing whatever they felt like doing at the time. Between fishing, doing chores together, to even spending nights curled up on the couch with either books or Flint teaching Lucas some school things, they were always together.
Flint can feel in his heart that someday Lucas will leave to go do important things, but he can't help but pray for a little bit longer time with his son. And while he still misses and looks for his other son, he can't forget about Lucas and he won't let him suffer alone.
Because seeing Lucas smile happily was a good reason to keep living.

Inumaru12: Randomly came to me…hope you like it~! Can you tell I love Flint and Lucas bonding stories? Also, why do all my stories seem to be getting shorter? I'm changing that, I swear! All the stories I'm working on for Mother/Smash Bros that I really like are pages long. I hope to have one out by the upcoming weekend! :)
