I miss you.

Mercedes stepped outside and saw the sun shining as bright as ever. She grinned a bit as she walked towards her car. She whipped out her phone and dialed a familiar number.

"Hello. This is Sam. Sorry I couldn't answer the phone right now."

In the background you could hear Mike whining "Sam! Come on! We have to finish building this stupid fortress!" Sam just scoffed and finished his voice message.

"Anyway, leave a message and I'll call you back as soon as possible!" After the beep indicated Mercedes to leave her message, "Hey Sammy. I'm on my way over. I'll be there in about fifteen minutes. Love you." The call ended and Mercedes was on her way.

"Fucking traffic…" Mercedes muttered as she stepped out of her car. Looking up, she saw Sam sitting in front of a tree where he lived. They both simultaneously let out ridiculous grins at each other. Mercedes strolled towards him as he stood.

"Hello, 'Cedes." Sam cooed, wrapping his arms around his girlfriend's neck.

"I missed you." He pecked Mercedes' cheek. After their hello, Sam took hold of Mercedes' hand and dragged her down so they were both sitting in front of the tree.

The two chatted on about everything, yet nothing at the same time. And it never grew old. They talked like this for a few hours before coming to a silence.

"Sammy?"

"Yes?"

"I love you."

Mercedes could see Sam smile out of the corner of her eye.

"I love you, too." He spoke, taking hold of Mercedes' hand. They sat there for a few more minutes as Sam played with Mercedes' fingers.

"Hey Sam?"

"Yeah?"

"I miss you."

Sam didn't respond. It was still a difficult subject for the both of them, but more so Mercedes. This was the first time she acknowledged it in front of Sam.

"I..I miss you, too."

"I should, uh, I should probably get going." Mercedes held back her tears as well as she could, but a few were too strong for her and strolled down her cheek. Sam wiped the runaway tears with his thumb.

"It's okay, love. I still get to see you." He turned Mercedes' face towards his. He longed into her eyes before leaning in. But it didn't feel the same as it used to.

Before all of this happened.

As they said their goodbyes and made plans on when they should meet up again, Mercedes made her way back to her car.

As she turned back toward the tree to wave to Sam, her boyfriend was no longer there. The small smile she had managed to paste on her face quickly faded and more tears escaped. She yanked the driver's door open and fell into the seat. For the first time, she cried. Actually sobbed. And it was because of all of this.

Because of his stupid accent.

Because of his stupid lips.

Because of his Boy band haircut.

Because of love.

Because of death.

She didn't look back at the graveyard as she drove home.
