Years go
The grey sky overhead, the chilly wind tossing her hair as she makes her way to that place over there. The blonde beauty enters the worn out place, she heads on to the corner, the particular table where the old ailing man is sitting.
She is the one basic thing in his mind, years have come and gone and she lingered on unforgettable, unchangeable.
"So, how is it going?" she starts
"The same, nothing eventful, the days still dragging"
"You haven't changed a bit"
He chuckled at her comment
"Really? Doesn't seem so, since it is you who is a witch not me"
"I miss you, Darrin"
"Me too, me too Sam"
"So" her tearful eyes bore into his
"So, what? Samantha"
"What do you say?"
"What do I say?! The choice is wholly yours, do you want to stay here with me, or will you just leave?"
"Darrin, it is just … I feel I won't be the person you want me to be"
"Sam, since you knew me did I ever push you beyond your forte?"
"I am scared, I am so scared, it is just so incompatible and … I am so confused"
"You are the one confused, Sam! For god's sake just say it; you don't want to stay here anymore"
"I…"
"When you find a solution just tell me "
He remembers that day, well. he was so angry, so angry and stupid.
"So, how are the kids?"
"The kids are busy, they come visit from time to time though. I hang out here since the house is empty after her death, and you?"
"Still roaming"
"no husband yet"
"Not yet, though I am still under pressure to find one"
"You should, you don't want to end up alone"
"It is hard to find someone like you" she whispered
She loves him, simple as that, despite the distances, despite the differences and the fact that he moved on. There was no one like him. She tried hard, she tried hard to find someone yet everyone seems to pale in comparison to him.
"So, you are leaving, Sam" his voice is smothered, so smothered. He wants to tell her to stay, stay here on earth with him, yet he can't, he just can't.
He is a man, he will hold up.
"It is doomed to fail, Darrin, the aging and all"
"I know, Sam"
"You do" her eyes are puffy and red. Her voice is low and hoarse
"Just know that I love you Darrin"
"Is that supposed to make it better?"
She gets to her leave
A couple of minutes he just sits there contemplating and it hits him, he can't just let her off that easily.
As he rallies after her, he wonders what would be of both of them now, that they are over.
"Sam, me too"
He catches her in his arms as she falls apart
"I am sorry, I am so sorry"
"Don't, don't, we will be fine, we will be"
Minutes later they are both composed
"Whenever you feel like it, come visit, Sam, I will be here"
"So, guess I will have to go"
"As you wish" he smiles his ever bittersweet smile
Every time, she finds leaving him hard, as hard as the first time, and then the urge is so huge that she leans in and kisses him.
He is taken by surprise and remains unresponsive for a second.
The whole mob is scrutinising them yet they don't know anything and they just don't care.
He looks her in the eyes, her eyes that carry him off to happier times, another place where other possibilities could have happened.
He knows he won't see her again, his disease is terminal and he doesn't have much longer, he knows it is their last meeting at least in this godforsaken world.
"I still love you, Darrin"
"me too babe, me too"
She walks away towards the exit, her eyes watering, she feels something will happen, there is something wrong about him this time.
He musters his strength to raise his voice
"Sam, Don't forget me"
"never"
"come and visit often, Sam, come and visit often"
