BACKSTORY – THE STORY OF EDWARD NYGMA
Edward Nygma was raised by his natural mother and father in an area that was located many miles away from Gotham City. Both of his parents were very intelligent people. Both were the very last offspring of both of their respective families. They had no brothers and sisters. Edward had no distant cousins, extended families, or any other blood relatives outside of his mother and father.
Edward had always been a geek who never had any close friends. No one ever showed him any kindness because he was perceived as odd to anyone who encountered him.
He never had any close ties with any of his teachers or instructors because he was very self-sufficient. If he needed anything for his survival he just hired people and never reached out to anyone for any form of camaraderie. His strange nature and his talking about riddles and puzzles always created a barrier to anyone he came in contact with. (Basically, people couldn't stand conversing with him or being close to him.) Whenever he felt love, his personality always got in the way of him ever getting past the first date.
He always felt that after he reached the age of 10 he could easily care for himself.
His parents weren't very loving or nurturing. They never even encouraged him to befriend people. They never had any close ties with other people and weren't friendly with other people either. On top of his father's indifference to Ed and to the world as a whole, Mr. Nygma also belittled his son, and also told him that he was dumb and unintelligent. If Ed accomplished something substantial, his father told him that he probably cheated to achieve that objective.
After Edward finished high school, he had two goals that he wanted to accomplish in the field of higher education. He applied for a scholarship and also for a work/study program in his hometown. He was able to achieve both of these goals.
After he graduated from college he left home and applied to the GCPD Department of Forensics and was able to secure employment there.
