A/N A BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR dolenz.

ACT ONE, SCENE ONE

INT. WHISKY A-GO-GO — DAY

Four young men, MICKY, MIKE, DAVY and PETER, are in the NIGHT CLUB decorating. The NIGHT CLUB is a dingy, hole in the ground place but it is still easy to tell it commonly frequented by the young people of the area as the hotspot.

MIKE, a tall, lanky, dark haired Texan 22 year old who thinks inhibitions are something found under the hood of a car, is hanging up a disco ball above the center of the dance floor.

PETER, a 22 year old with sandy colored hair and an innocent face, is trying to tape up streamers on the wall but keeps getting the tape stuck to himself.

DAVY, a 19 year old with brown hair reaching his shoulders, standing at only 5 foot 3 but with an ego twice as large, is making out with a waitress.

MICKY, a 19 year old with brown hair, straightened and resting just below his ears, containing the energy of a five year old on a sugar high, is standing at the DJ booth and going through records. He was selecting music but got distracted and is now dancing instead.

MIKE

(with a think southern accent)

Micky! We have to get everything set up and ready by six o'clock. Will stop screwing around and get that music selection finished!

MICKY

(walking back to the DJ booth)

I'm working on it, keep your shirt on.

PETER

(struggling with a long strand of tape that he somehow managed to get wrapped around his wrists, biceps and stuck to his hair)

I don't see why we need to select music. We're a band, why don't we just play for the party.

MIKE

Well, we're going to, Peter. But we don't want to miss the party completely. We'll play a few sets and spend the rest of the party celebrating Jessie's birthday.

(MIKE suddenly notices Davy making out with the waitress)

Davy! Will get the chick out of your ear! The party starts at six o'clock! Six o'clock! Does everybody hear me?

(MICKY, PETER and DAVY all say together as they go back to their designated tasks)

MICKY

Geez, Mike, we'll be ready. Chill out.

DAVY

I was only necking!

PETER

I'm sorry, Michael.

MIKE

I'm sorry, guys. I just want the party to be perfect.

Everyone diligently gets back to work.

INT. WHISKY A-GO-GO — NIGHT

The NIGHT CLUB is decorated for a party. The lights are low, the disco ball projecting lights on the walls and the dancers. The CLUB is packed and everyone is dancing enthusiastically to THE BAND. MICKY, MIKE, DAVY and PETER are on stage wearing matching red six-button shirts and MIKE in a green wool hat playing "Last Train to Clarksville."

JESSIE walks in and the song transforms to "Take a Giant Step." JESSIE is a petite girl of 21 years. She has long red hair and big, bright blue eyes. She is wearing a blue and white sleeveless mini-dress.

A spotlight falls on JESSIE and follows her to the center of the dance floor. The dancers split for her so she has a clear view of the bandstand. Though MICKY is behind the drums, he still makes eye-contact with JESSIE, as though he is singing the song only to her.

When the song ends THE BAND and all the dancers erupt in "The Birthday Song." At the conclusion of the song, the BOYS put their instruments away and got off the bandstand to greet the BIRTHDAY GIRL.

THE BOYS run over to JESSIE and engulf her in hugs and kisses.

MICKY, MIKE, DAVY and PETER

(all together)

Happy birthday, Jessie!
