Title: Chaucer
Author: Kimiko
Fandom: Space Cases
Series: Probably a sequel to the big angsty slashfic I'm working on, but stands alone
quite nicely.
Pairing: Heavily implied Harlan/Radu
Rating: G
Spoilers: None, I think. But how can you be spoiled for a series that's no longer on the
air?
Disclaimer: SC belongs to people much cooler than I (except for Herb, whom we can all
agree rather sucks). I promise to put them back when I'm done, in much the same
condition as when I started. I am emphatically not profiting from any of this. Don't sue
me; I'm poor.
Summary: Just a cute little piece of fluff.
Warnings: Shounen-ai and Middle English (= strange words most modern people can't
understand). Buy an annotated book of Chaucer's work; I promise you'll benefit greatly.

"...Battle of Poitiers," Davenport was saying, "in which the English ultimately..."

Radu was not paying attention. He was far too busy attempting to decipher the strange
words which had appeared on his compupad.

"Nas never pyk walwed in galauntyne
As I in love am walwed and y-wounde;
For which ful ofte I of my-self divyne
That I am trewe Tristam the secounde.
My love may not refreyde or afounde;
I brenne ay in amorous plesaunce.
Do what you list, I wil your thral be founde..."

He smiled at Harlan, halfway across the room, who was making quite a show of taking
notes.

"Mr. Radu," Davenport said abruptly, "are you paying attention? What is so interesting
over there?"

He blushed. "Harlan was just - just sending me an example of some poetry from the
period we're discussing."

"I see." Davenport approached him, looking disapproving. She peered at his screen and
her whole face lit up. "Chaucer's 'To Rosemounde: a Balade'!" she exclaimed. "But, Mr.
Band, you forgot the stanza's final line: 'Thogh ye to me ne do no daliaunce.'"

Harlan looked smug. "It didn't fit the situation."

Davenport looked exceedingly perplexed while Bova rolled his eyes and Cat and Rosie
giggled behind their hands. Radu sank low in his seat, blushing furiously but unable to
keep the sappy grin off his face.
