Note: I wrote this for a school assignment, where I was required to write a poem based on The Odyssey.
A Prayer to a Goddess
A Prayer to a Goddess
I used to be a frightened little child,
needing far more courage, any form.
I acted helpless as suitors ran wild
with lust for Mother strong as Zeus' storm.
But then one day you showed up at my door
in Mentor's form, a crafty move no doubt.
Your strength and courage made me weak no more.
My father I was ready to seek out.
Odysseus I met, my fear mended,
the meeting sweet as Aphrodite's kiss.
As a beggar, father I defended,
then killed the suitors; never did I miss.
Oh goddess, let me thank you best I can.
Athena, you helped me become a man.
