Prologue

I'm sitting under the sycamore tree pretending to study for a history test I have in twenty minutes. Next to me Marisa is fighting with Joe, while across from them Natalie is sulking that Joe isn't fighting with her.

Across the lawn a group of guys are playing hackysack. A boy who looks about twelve runs through and causes the blonde guy to drop it.

If I look up the sunlight pours through the leafy branches like gold and I feel like I am in a story.

Jenna has just flops down next to me, her blonde hair splayed out on the grass like a curlicue fan.

"I'm so depressed." She tells me squinting in the midday sun.

I'm happy for an excuse to look away from my book.

"What's wrong?" I ask sympathetically.

She sighs deeply and rolls on her side picking idly at a dandelion.

"Sirius Black." She murmurs quietly.

I am sympathetic. I know only too well the pain of unrequited love.

"You've got to be kidding me." Says Morgan scornfully. He is sitting on one of the tree roots that have protruded from the grass after so many years of life.

"Shut up Morgan." I say coldly. Morgan has no heart. "You have no heart." I tell him.

"Well at least I have a brain." He says with contempt.

I decide to ignore him. "Ignore him Jenna." I tell her.

"It's just…we're perfect for each other!" she tells me, doing an excellent job of ignoring Morgan. It's possible she didn't even notice what he said in the first place.

"I know!" I tell her supportively. "He's so tortured and you are exactly the kind of person he needs! Well, would have needed." I add sadly.

"Why did he have to die?" she asks me in a tortured voice. I wish I could answer.

"You know something Jen?" starts Morgan grabbing the blue covered book from her hands. "I think you need to stop reading Order of the Phoenix…it makes you delusional."

Jenna tries to snatch the book back but he's holding it out of reach.

"Jenna is not delusional!" I shout defending her and grabbing the book from him.

"Oh what do you know about delusional? You write fan fiction about you and Harry Potter joining The Strokes." He says meanly.

"Oh I do not!" I tell him disdainfully. My cheeks feel hot though, because I totally do.

"Whatever. The Harry Potter series is just an over hyped, over rated and over done melodrama." He says taking another bite of his apple.

"Nice of you to say that, since you've read them all." I say snottily.

Morgan looks uncomfortable. He mutters something about reading them for class.

Jenna is annoyed and so am I. She steals my fruit snacks. I let her because I know that even though she is hiding it, she is still sad about Sirius.

"What do you have next?" she asks me, picking out all the strawberry ones from the bag.

"History." I tell her glancing down at my book.

She makes a face. She hates history too.

"Hey, that's what Sirius Black is!" says Morgan.

Jenna throws a fruit snack at him and hits him between the eyes. She is awesome like that.

The bell rings and everyone starts scrambling to make it to class before the second bell sounds.

I close my book and stand up. "What do you have?" I ask Jenna slipping the book into my backpack. "Defense." she says, finishing my fruit snacks and closing her eyes. Jenna doesn't like to feel rushed.

Lucky, I think. Defense is so much more interesting. She just smiles and rolls into a sitting position.

"See you in potions?" she asks with a smile. Potions is our favorite class.

"Absolutely!" I grin.

I pick up my wand and join the throngs of rushing students.

Hey you. Yeah, you. Reading this fanfiction. Yeah, you. You know how you secretly like to pretend that this world…the Harry Potter one? You know how you like to pretend its real? Well…Surprise! You were right.
