They didn't know what to make of him. They walked on eggshells around him, as if he was liable to go off like a ticking time bomb. He'd seen the side-eye glances and glares, heard the whispers and murmurs. He'd be blind and deaf not to. Their treatment of him was no different than the one he received on Count Cruhteo's the orbital station.

At least, he will not be beaten for any slight or being outspoken.

Princess Asseylum had smiled like the sun upon seeing him. If her eyes shone with a wet sheen, he'd said nothing. She'd wrapped him in a warm embrace, thanking whatever gods that he was safe and alive. The princess's maid in waiting, Edelritto, had given him a quick look before turning her attention to Asseylum.

Kaizuka Inaho was the pilot of the orange Kataphract. He was rather odd, quiet, socially inept and almost expressionless but he possessed a rather intelligent mind and was quick with tactical strategies. He had been the first one to openly accept Slaine on board without much question, unlike several others who'd protested or looked at him with reservation and distrust.

He was just as Terran as they all with exception to living on Mars for the past several years. In the end, he supposed it didn't matter whether he was of Earth or Mars or both. He cannot change people's hearts or mind or their prejudices.

Still, his presence and the Sky Carrier was a welcome on board.

"It's because your aircraft can be use to get the Kataphract airborne and to areas which vehicles can't access," Inaho said, frankly.

They were in one of the cabins on board the battle cruiser. The door had been locked as a precaution against prying eyes and ears. Here, 'Seylum' shed her alter persona and in her place was Princess Asseylum of Vers. They were joined by Rayet and Eddie who stuck like a limpet to Asseylum's side.

"An added advantage," Slaine murmured.

Inoho didn't nod or agree but Slaine had come to understand the other boy's nuances and tells. The slight widening of the eyes showing that Inaho was surprised and pleased that someone finally understood what he meant.

They didn't discuss tactics or what weaknesses the Martian Kataphracts have. Slaine didn't know much about any flaws in the Martian Kataphracts, as he'd confessed earlier on. He only knew that each Kataphract was designed specially for the knights, to utilize their combat prowess and abilities. He'd never piloted one either but knew the basic how to logistics. Rayet never contributed much but she stayed to listen. She wasn't as accepting but she didn't outright reject him either.

There was something there between them. It blossomed out from the need to keep secrets together and grew into more than that. At first, it had been awkward and they weren't sure what to do about this. They were brought together by circumstances beyond their control but it was there. The thread that would bind them together in their fate. There was a tentative friendship there between them.

End.
