"You need to smile more," Dawn said.

She sat across from Paul on the couch, holding Piplup on her lap.

"No, I don't," Paul said, idly clicking the channel button on the remote control.

"Yes, you do. You can't look grouchy all the time."

Today of all days Dawn had come over to visit. It was lightly storming outside, and Paul had wanted to train his Pokemon in it. Piplup just happened to be scared of lightning.

"Come on," Dawn insisted, "Smile."

Paul sighed and turned to her, attempting a smile.

She pouted, "That's a scowl."

"I have smiled before."

"Those weren't happy ones."

"Does it even matter?"

"Yes. You use fewer facial muscles when you smile, and smiling makes you happy." She pushed the corners of Paul's mouth up. "See? Now try to keep it that way." She backed away. The smile vanished.

Paul attempted to recreate the smile. Reggie passed by, glanced over, and stopped. "Paul, are you in pain?"

Dawn sighed, "I'm going to get a glass of water. Do you want anything?"

Paul shook his head and after Dawn left he winced, rubbings his cheeks, "Smiling hurts."
