So I wrote a drabble for a friend's birthday (rather belatedly, sorry!). I don't think much of it, but this goes out to 1010amy for her wonderful artwork! Happy belated birthday!
Prompt: Remember those scenes that I drew about Lovina and Amelia wanting a puppy? Well, something like that scenario. Amelia coming up on Lovina when she's just relaxing with a book and Amelia popping off that she wanted a puppy.
Lovina curled up with her favorite book. She'd read it a half dozen times, but it was nice to not have to focus to keep track of the story, the familiar characters. She could skim and still feel satisfied at the end of her jaunt.
"Um, Lovina?" Amelia asked, leaning against the arm of Lovina's easy chair. Lovina tipped her book to look at Amelia, who squirmed. "Uh, should I wait?"
"It's okay," Lovina groaned, marking her place and kneading her forehead to clear out the cobwebs and debris strewn about by the book's world. "What's your question?"
"Well..." Amelia hesitated. "The thing is, I was looking at the newspaper, and there was kind of, uh..."
"Some science article?" Lovina offered, Amelia's face lit up.
"Oh, actually, yeah, there was a breakthrough at-" Amelia cut herself off. "Wait, that's not what I wanted to ask about!" Amelia pouted, holding up a classified ad page with half a dozen red circles on it. "Puppies, Lovina! We'd be such good dog mommies."
"Dog mommies."
"If we raise them from puppyhood, we can train them to do all sorts of tricks!" Amelia said, offering her most potent puppy eyes over the top of the newspaper. "Like, we say, 'Bang!' and then they fall over."
"You want to pretend to kill our dog?" Lovina asked, raising her eyebrows. Horror filled Amelia's face.
"What-no! No, that was just an example!" Amelia shrank behind the newspaper. "We could say, 'Go to bed!' and the puppy could curl up in a blanket! Or we could teach them to dance with us!"
Amelia's lower lip trembled, and Lovina caved.
"No little yappy dogs," Lovina said. "And you'll have to take her out on walks, got it?"
Amelia beamed, immediately swooping down to press kisses against Lovina's cheeks and forehead before Lovina could yank her head down to properly kiss her lips.
"I have the best girlfriend in the world!" Amelia crowed, leaping back up to her feet. Lovina noted with pride that Amelia's face was nicely flushed. "Let's go!"
