He comes to her because she's the only one he knows, he trusts, he loves.

She lets him in because she can see in his face, he needs this, and she's only seen that look a couple times before. He walks in, head down, soaking wet. She can smell the alcohol on him, but she doesn't care. He needs her and that's enough for her.

The room is dark when he walks in and he's not able to figure out where the furniture is, but he finds himself, after a few steps, on a soft surface. She puts the dimmers on and he realizes that it's her couch that he resides on.

He doesn't ask, doesn't talk, and doesn't move. She walks to where he is and sits on the table in front of him, looking at him with the care only a loved one knows. She doesn't push since she knows him, she knows he needs time to think. He looks up, opens his mouth, then closes it again, and hangs his hand.

He feels a soft touch grazing his left cheek, before that same hand starts to tilt his head up, forcing him to look straight into her eyes. A smile awaits him and he can't help himself. He kisses her and the surprise of the century to him is that she kisses back, not what he originally thought she would do. He thought he would be feeling a stinging sensation on his cheek from her hand but instead he feels her hand gently cupping his face and that's all it takes to break him.
