Fire On Ice
A/N: Hey guys, this is my tribute to who will forever be my Doctor, 12. I look forward to the adventures of thirteen but right now, I want to honour the man that flirted with dinosaurs and made out with the Master. I doff my hat to you sir. ENJOY! R&R PLZ!
Well, I suppose….one more lifetime won't kill anyone. Well, except me.
The Doctor closed his eyes and for a moment could see it all, his entire life, his existence all hued with gold and a crystalline ringing in his ears. Another chapter, his last but not his last. He was so tired and yet so full of energy, ready to burst from him again. He wasn't the Doctor anymore but…he had something to say.
You wait a moment, Doctor. Let's get it right. I've got a few things to say to you. Basic stuff first
In his mind's eye, he saw Clara. Her memory returned to him at the time he needed it the most. She smiled at him from somewhere beyond his reach. His impossible girl, the one that defied time and space, how he had missed her memory.
Never be cruel, never be cowardly. And never ever eat pears! Remember – hate is always foolish…and love, is always wise.
After all, he remembered the cloisters.
Always try to be nice and never fail to be kind.
Bill, his dear Bill. The one that inspired him again. The one that sang him to sleep at the end of this too long day. Now she was out there, amongst the stars. Loving and in love. He hoped that wherever she truly was, that she was at peace, side by side with Heather running.
Running.
Running.
River.
Oh, and….and you mustn't tell anyone your name.
There will never be another. He bid his farewell to his one true wife. She knew his name, that was her right and it will always be hers. He will never tell another because there was only ever River.
No-one would understand it anyway. Except…. Except….children.
Like young Amelia Pond. Fish fingers and custard, indeed.
Children can hear it. Sometimes – if their hearts are in the right place, and the stars are too. Children can hear your name.
Oh the Ponds. His family.
But nobody else. Nobody else. Ever.
No one could take their place.
Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind.
I am a memory. I am not the Doctor anymore.
Doctor – I let you go.
