Dedication: To Pavel and Judge Paul's Wife. I did not know them well, but as an amateur actress I know that they supported the arts in my community. Mary went to the Lord a few days ago and the last I heard of Pavel was that he was clinging to life. My prayers go out to their families.

Summary: Even in death, he guarded her.

Disclaimer: I do not own Hocus Pocus

She never came to harm. She had found that it was quite easy to get herself out of scrapes that would have normally put her in great peril. Yet, she would just laugh it off. Some that knew her had said she was just lucky, but Max and Allison knew differently. She had a guardian. They all did. Ever since that fateful Halloween night that changed their lives forever. The night that Thackery Binx finally died.

It was a sad time for all three of them, and they had become close because of it. They only had each other to lean on mostly due to the fact that others would have called them crazy. Crazy or not, it happened. Everything... the magic, the evil and the death. All because a virgin lit a candle. They had prevailed though. They destroyed the Sanderson sisters, but that did not stop them from losing the newest member of their family.

When their parents asked why they were so depressed, they would tell them the truth. "Binx is dead."

When questioned who 'Binx' was, they answered. "A cat."

But he was so much more than that. He was their new friend. He was their brother...and perhaps something more.

Dani had though that he would live forever. That her children's children would take care of him. It was a wonderful dream, to give the cursed cat a life with a family who loved him, and even Max had wanted that for him. To give him a real home to look after with real people to love. That was never going to happen though, because Thackery Binx is dead.

They were sure that he still watched them. His 'family' had grown. Thrived really. Until recently. Dani had just turned sixteen and they knew now that no amount of precautions can save a person. It wasn't even up to the 'guardian.'

Hospice had given her two weeks...two weeks ago.

She knew her time here was up, but she wasn't sad. She was happy, because as she looked around at the sea of faces of those who were close to her, one stood out.

"Come on, Dani," he said as he raised his hand to her, beckoning her from the spot she was laying in and she took it. She was surprised at how warm and comforting it was. He lead her away, but she turned for one last look of those left in the room. Everyone was crying except the newly wed Max and Allison. They could see them. They were watching him take their sister through shining eyes.

The tears they shed were those of happiness.

For they knew that he would guard her.

She was safe.
