Sibling Rivalry

HikaruTsubasa

Yes, I know I should be uploading the new chapter for Hunters' Children, but I want to polish it just a bit more. So there.

Summary: Keli is Shalnark's big sister, who left Meteor City for good when Shalnark was ten years old. What would happen when they meet again, fifteen years later?

Disclaimer: I don't own hunterxhunter.

Chapter one

Keli and Shal

Two figures were walking along a dark street in Meteor City.

"Nee-chan? Where we going?" asked the smaller of the pair. He had sandy blond hair and emerald green eyes. "And what's with the steel pipe?"

The taller one grinned evilly. She had longer, more reddish brown hair, but her eyes were identical to her brother's. "Protection. You never know when some creep would sneak up on you."

"...Really. Nee-chan, you need to learn to lie better," said Shalnark, with an identical evil grin.

"Shut up. But anyway, little bro, we have arrived at our destination."

A thin shaft of sunlight had managed to pierce the ever-present smog, lighting up the frankly unimpressive but secluded corner.

Shalnark was annoyed. "...You know, I could've been finishing that electricity wire instead of coming to this place. You'd better have a good explanation, or I won't let you use the computer when it's done-"

"Patience! Geez, anyone'd think that you were the elder sibling if you were just the teensiest bit taller. And this 'place', as you call it, is a place that you should remember!"

"Why?"

Keli grinned evilly again. "Because this is the place where your rather dull life starts getting interesting."

Shalnark was starting to get a very bad feeling. "...Nee-chan? What do you mean by that?"

"I'll cut to the chase. I'm leaving Meteor City. And I'm never EVER coming back."

"...What?"

Shalnark was in shock. He had never been outside of the rubbish dump city, and now Keli was announcing it as if it was the most normal thing to do.

"Of course, you'll stay here."

"WHAT! NO WAY, I'M COMING WITH YOU!"

His big sister grinned. And Shalnark's bad feeling grew into a fully-fledged ominous premonition.

"This, little bro, is exactly why I brought the steel pipe."

The last thing Shalnark saw before the length of pipe knocked him unconscious was his sister's extremely evil grin.

He woke up a full day later, and groaned. His head REALLY hurt. He gingerly touched the spot where the pipe had hit him. His hand came away with little sticky flakes of dried blood stuck onto it. Keli could've been a touch gentler with the blasted thing.

He looked around, and saw the literally bloody steel pipe lying on the ground with a piece of paper sticking out of one end. He pulled it out, unrolled it, and read the note.

Dear Shalnark,

Sorry if I hit you a bit hard with the pipe. I lost my balance slightly and it swung down a lot faster than I intended it to.

By the time you wake up, I'll be well away from Meteor City, so don't even think about trying to follow me.

As a hint if you want to look for me later, I'm headed for this year's Hunter exam.

Keliena Eslin, soon to be Treasure Hunter.

P.s.

Keep the steel pipe. You can use it to hit me when you find me. I'll give you one free shot. Little bro, you'd better be someone worth talking to when you do.

Lots of love,

Keli.
