I woke up screaming this morning. Yesterday was a bad day, considering the flock lost Fang. I ran downstairs to wake Nudge and Angel, but I remembered I had to wake up Iggy, so he and Gazzy could start breakfast. Fang used to do that, not me. I bounded into Iggy's room, but Iggy was gone. Hmmm, maybe he already woke up? Being on the run for a while meant that sometimes you wake up earlier than usual.
I trudged into Nudge and Angel's room, thankfully they were still sleeping. I plastered a fake smile on, blocked my thoughts and woke up Angel.
"Good morning Angel! How do you want to wake up Nudge today?"
We went through our routine, coming up with new ways to horrify poor Nudge in the morning. Angel had devious ideas in her little seven year old mind. We decided that Angel would jump on Nudge's bed while I threw stuffed animals at her. It ended wonderfully, Nudge woke up startled, and Angel and I got our entertainment for the day.
I let the girls get dressed, while I went downstairs to check on breakfast. I turned the corner to see Fang sitting on the couch, watching TV. I catapulted myself onto him and started crying on his shoulder.
"Fang, where have you been?" I mumbled.
"What do you mean? I never left. I promised you that when you got back from Germany." He said, concerned.
"You mean that Dylan and Doctor Scary were just dreams, and we never went to Africa?" I asked.
"You must've had a bad dream Max. I don't remember Africa." Fang comforted.
I stayed there for a while, curled up, with my head in his shoulder. I thought I heard someone walk in, but the footsteps receded faster than I had heard them come in. Fang's hand was making slow circles on my back, in between my wings. It was so calming, I almost fell asleep again. About five minutes later, Iggy called that breakfast was ready. I jumped up and ran to the kitchen, leaving Fang running after me, laughing.
