AN: My first RENT fic so please, be nice.
Summary: Angel asks Collins to sing her a song.
"Collins?"
"What is it, Angel?"
"Can you hold me?"
Collins carefully slipped into Angel's hospital bed. Her already small frame had really taken a beating from the various drugs the doctors gave her and the coughing fits she had almost all the time. The coughing fits were the worst. They way the cough would shake her whole body. He swore every time she had a violent fit, he could see a part of her once carefree and happy soul slip away from her body.
Despite her shrinking size, Collins was amazed at how Angel still fit perfectly in his arms. He held his angel close to his body, rocking her back and forth, trying to suppress the tears that threatened to fall from his sleep-deprived eyes. He could feel Angel's heart beating against his; the beats in sync with one another. He could feel every shiver in her body even though she had a fever of 103 degrees.
"Collins?"
"Yea, baby?"
"I love you."
"I love you too."
There was a small silence.
"Can you sing for me?"
Collins hardly ever sang for anyone. But this was his angel. How could he refuse?
"Sure Ang. What do you want to hear?"
"That song we made up and sang together that time after Life Support on Boxing Day last year."
Collins remembered the song well. It was the definitive moment they realized their undying love for each other. Collins took a deep breath and began in at slow, soft, rhythm.
"Live in my house. I'll be your shelter. Just pay me back with one thousand kisses. Be my lover and I'll cover you. Open your door. I'll be your tenant. Don't got much baggage to lay at your feet. But sweet kisses I've got to spare. I'll be there and I'll cover you."
Angel began to shiver violently. Her breaths started to get shallower.
"Please keep going…"
Collins, tears slowly starting to fall continued their declaration of love.
"I think they meant it when they said you can't buy love. A new lease you have been my love. On life; all my life. I've longed to discover, something as true as this is."
Angel coughed violently and her whole body shook with enormous force. She stopped long enough to whisper, "So with a thousand sweet kisses… I'll cover you"
More tears flowed as he continued.
"If you're cold and you're lonely. You got one nickel only. When you're worn out and tired. When your heart has expired."
His voice cracked. He could feel Angel's heart slowing against his.
"Please, Collins…"
Tears were streaming down both their faces.
"Oh, lover, I'll cover you."
"Thank you."
And she took her last breath. She was gone. Gone. Forever. It was over. Angel was no longer in any pain. But Collins's pain had just begun.
