Family Union
"You know you have to do it. He won't accept it from me. It has to be you."
Harry Potter sighed heavily. Ginny was right. Lily and Scorpius were getting married. The Potter and Malfoy families were joining, against all odds.
He'd be furious. Harry knew that. The kids wouldn't tell him because they were too afraid of the reaction. So it was up to Harry. And he was not looking forward to it.
It was time to tell Ron.
Ever since the Battle of Hogwarts almost 30 years before, Harry and Draco Malfoy had become rather friendly. They greeted each other in the halls at the ministry, and both were very pleased with the upcoming nuptials. If you had told a 16 year old Harry Potter or Draco Malfoy that they would not only become family but be happy about it as well, they might have sent you to St. Mungo's. But now they were very pleased to be family. Even Lucius Malfoy was civil to the Potters.
Ron was a different story. Ronald Weasley liked to hold a grudge. He ignored the entire Malfoy family, even Scorpius. He fueled a rivalry between his daughter Rose and the young Malfoy when they were in school, and now tried to do the same at the ministry.
Harry apparated to the home of Ron and Hermione Weasley. As he arrived, Draco appeared about ten feet away.
"He's not going to like this."
"I know. That's why I'm here, mate. I thought you could use some support." Draco pushed back his blonde hair and accompanied Harry to the front door.
Hermione answered it immediately, greeting Harry with a hug and warmly shaking Draco's hand.
"He's in the study, boys. Good luck," she said, directing them to the rear of the house.
Harry went first. "Hey Ron?"
Ron ushered him into the study. "Harry! How are you? Ginny alright?"
"Yeah we're great but there's something I've gotta tell you. You should sit down."
"What's happened?"
"Lily's getting married."
"Merlin's pants, Harry I though you were gonna tell me someone died! That's brilliant! Who to?"
"My son." Draco walked into the room.
Ron stared, glaring at Malfoy. "You've gotta be joking."
"No not at all, Ron. Lily and Scorpius are getting married," Harry replied.
"But Harry! It's Malfoy! You can't let my favorite niece marry a Malfoy!"
"You've got 6 nieces, Ron. You can't say Lily's your favorite."
"But she is!" Ron protested.
Harry smirked. "Don't let the other girls catch you saying that."
"That's not the point, Harry! It's Malfoy! Speaking of which, this is a family matter. Get out of my house!"
"Ron!" Harry put an arm on Draco's shoulder. "This is my family now, just as much as you and Hermione are! Lily and Scorpius love each other and that's all that counts. Draco is a good man. We're not kids anymore. You can't hate a person because they're in Slytherin. Even Lucius is happy for the kids!"
"I didn't even think about that. Harry, Dad's gonna flip!"
"Your dad knows how much Scorpius loves Lily. He'll get over it. Just like you will."
Ron scowled, knowing Harry was right. He stood from his chair and crossed to glare at Draco. After a tense moment, Ron offered his hand. Draco shook it.
"Welcome to the family, I guess."
Draco smiled. "Can't say I've ever wanted to be a Weasley, or especially a Potter. But I suppose I'm glad I am."
