I could tell in the first five minutes that the storm was going to last awhile. I decided to use the rain and the cover it provided to my advantage.
"I'll be back soon," I told Blackfoot. "It's the plan we discussed." He nodded and bowed his head as I passed.
Young fool, I thought as I padded away. He thinks that by supporting me now, he'll get power later. Ha! The only cat gaining power will be me.
It wasn't long before I crossed the border into ThunderClan territory. I knew the rain would cover me this time, but I would have to be extra careful the next time I came. ThunderClan cats were proud, obedient, star-crossed mouse-brains, but they weren't idiotic enough not to notice my scent. Of course, if Darkstripe was on the patrol that discovered it, he would convince them it meant nothing.
Nice to have a spy, I thought, turning my paws towards Snakerocks. Without him, I would never have found the dogs. But I can't get too reliant on him. As if I would – pah! I'm no mouse-brain. I'm a leader. Which scares Darkstripe, I know it does.
I purred at the memory of our last meeting. He had trembled the whole time as he told me of the dogs and their exact location. He wanted to be just like me, and at the same time he was too much of a coward to join me in ShadowClan. All the more a fool!
I came across a rabbit and killed it easily. I couldn't believe my luck – the thing had hopped straight into my path. And I hadn't even met a ThunderClan cat yet, although if I did, they wouldn't live to tell the tale.
The rabbit in my mouth, I trotted on to my destination. I arrived just as the rain began to let up, but I wasn't worried. I could easily implement my plan and be gone before any ThunderClan cats even found my scent.
I looked down into the cave. There they were – huge dogs, with rough fur and big, sharp canines. I purred quietly. Yes, they would do. They would do quite nicely.
I tossed the rabbit down, and watched as the largest dog, presumably the leader, woke with a start. He spotted the prey and dove at it without a second thought. Within seconds the rabbit was being torn open by six bloody jaws.
With a purr, I turned and slipped back into the forest. Fireheart would soon learn what happens when I'm crossed.
Ah, revenge… so sweet. And it hasn't even happened yet.
