I have set our heroes into a prior time frame of WW2 in a reboot type story. In this story Jack's son, Charlie is his daughter and she is young adult. They have not traveled through time! This is simply set in 1941. Teal'c is a human. I have given our heroes slightly different backgrounds for this story.

Chapter 1

1941

Two women walked the streets on New York City on the gloomy Friday in early spring. They both sported leather flight jackets and shorter hairstyles for the day. One of the women was much taller than the other and nearly ten years her senior. The shorter girl sported light brown hair that was a bit messy and wisped in the wind. The tallest of the pair was blonde and her hair seemed perfectly in place with no effort at all. Racing pilot, aeronautical engineer and astrophysicist, Samantha "Sam" Carter conversed with her young friend and fellow pilot, Charlene "Charlie" O'Neill as they walked that afternoon.

"Why are we going to this lecture?" asked Charlie glancing up to see her taller friend's smiling face.

"'Secrets of the Pyramids' sound like a fun way to pass the time." Sam replied.

"Secrets of the pyramids?" she whined. "Why do you keep dragging me to all these college campus lectures?"

"Because you are eighteen and should be looking at college," she told her.

"What do I need college for?" she huffed. "I'm a pilot and I have a photographic memory. I can look at a map once and navigate with my eyes closed. I can get any piloting job."

"If you want to design planes you really should get a degree," she countered. They arrived at the door, "This is it!" Sam led her young friend inside.

They soon found their way to the auditorium. It was dimly lit and on stage was a tall man sporting a gray twill suit with a black bow tie. He wore black rimmed glasses and was busy drawing on the chalkboard behind him.

Charlie noticed the audience was scant with few people. She looked about as they took a seat in the last row. Over to the other end of the row was a young woman with dark hair sporting a blue dress and heels. She glanced over at Sam and Charlie and gave a smile in acknowledgement.

The lecture started as the man turned and looked about his audience. "This is all?" he asked unsure. He looked at his pocket watch and then grimaced. The room wasn't very full. "Okay, I'm Dr. Daniel Jackson and I will be presenting to you the Secrets of the Pyramids. The pyramids located in Giza do not appear to be tombs from my research. They are landing pads for ancient space craft…" Suddenly those in the audience sitting in the front stood up and walked out of the lecture. "Wait…" he called hoping someone would stay.

Charlie snorted to Sam, "You are wasting my time." She stood up and decided this was too insane for her ears.

"At least give him a chance," Sam argued as she went after her friend.

Daniel figured all of his audience just left. He started to pack up his presentation and found a sole woman staying in the back. He mentioned, "Might as well go home. Everyone else has."

The woman rose to her feet and she walked down to the stage. She stated, "My name is Catherine Langford. I would like to speak to you privately about your theory."

"Just contact my secretary," he stated sarcastically for he had none.

She handed him a note, "Please call my father at this number."

He took the paper and glanced at it, "Why not?" he asked himself.

"Oh' for the record one of the those two ladies sitting in the back with me wanted to stay and listen but her friend left so she went after her. I thought you would like to know that you did have someone else who was interested."

"Thanks," he sighed.

"Call my father," she repeated. She then turned and walked back up the aisle to the exit.

Daniel sighed, "Right."

Meanwhile, Charlie led Sam back out of the building and into a rainy and wet street. She dug her baseball cap out from inside her jacket and placed it on her head as Sam found placed a red bandana over her hair.

"Of all the dumb things…" Charlie shook her head.

"You didn't even give him a chance to explain his theory," Sam countered.

"Please," she rolled her eyes. "Landing pads for ships from outer space. That's insane!" she complained as they started to walk. "Next time just drag me to one of your boring physics lectures."

"That's why I chose this one because you get bored with physics." Sam huffed. "I thought something different would be a good thing."

"Tomorrow is the race!" she stated. "Can we have a good dinner and a good nights' sleep? Maybe we can see a picture show? That would be less of a waste of time than…" she motioned behind her, "that guy!"

"He was kind of cute," Sam smirked.

"But you have a crush on my dad," she teased her.

"And he treats me like I'm one of his men under his command," she complained. "He calls me 'Carter' all the time."

"I think he does that because your Dad is a General and he is also an ace." she figured.

"It's annoying!" Sam complained. They came across a corner store and display caught Sam's eye. "Jell-O! Hey, they have a new flavor. It's blue!"

"It's gelatin," she rebutted unenthused. "I don't know how come you like that stuff so much." She then found the ice cream flavors. "Hey…Chocolate chip with mint ice cream."

"Gelatin is not as heavy as ice cream." Sam sounded.

"Fine," Charlie led her inside the store. "You get a package of your Jell-O and I'll get us some ice cream."

Sam muttered, "I need to stay away from the sweets." She then spotted a promotion, "Waffle cones! Get me one of those with my ice cream."

"Gotta admit," Charlie grinned. "New York City has it all!"

Later that Day

Dr. Jackson arrived to his small home and found a stack of boxes containing his books from college on his porch. A letter was placed on top of the boxes from the dean. He gave a heavy sigh as he opened the letter and read the simple sentence stating his views didn't agree with the university and his employment was terminated. He ripped up the notice and opened his door. He pushed his way through with one of the boxes of books in his arms. He placed the box down in the hallway by the phone stand. He looked at the black telephone sitting on the oak stand and debated if he should call the number. He dug the number out of his pocket and laid it by the phone as he then attended to the remaining boxes of books.

Next Day - Bennett Air Field New York

The planes gathered for the air race that would go across the country to California. The race was a competition of innovation rather than speed. Refueling would be time consuming for the plane that landed in California first won. Most of the fliers were men but a small handful of pilots were women. With the recent loss of Amelia Earhart and Bessie Coleman new women were coming forward in the field of air racing but they were not as well known. Jackie Cochran, Nancy Love, Louise Thaden, Panco Barns were the emerging leaders in the field. The names Sam Carter and Charlie O'Neill seemed to have gone by the wayside yet the innovations from the pair were astonishing.

A new face was on the scene as Charlie and Sam readied their twin engine plane for the race. She was about Sam's age and sported red hair. She had a black man for a co-pilot and the pair stood out as odd for the day.

Sam made her way to the other twin engine plane as the two readied for their flight. She smiled and decided to introduce herself to the pilot and co-pilot. She found them walking around the plane for pre-flight check. "Hey there!" she greeted.

The redheaded young woman looked up. She was dressed in her flight gear of leather coat, a scarf and a leather helmet with tan trousers. Her green eyes settled on the tall woman who approached them. She replied, "Hey there."

Sam introduced herself, "I'm Sam Carter. You're new!" She stuck out a hand in greeting.

"I'm Dr. Janet Frasier," she shook her hand. "This is my co-pilot, Teal'c."

She offered the tall black man her hand as well, "Nice to meet you. Teal'c is an unusual name."

"I am from Nairobi," he spoke pleasantly and with very good English. He too was dressed like a pilot with leather jacket and tan trousers with a white button down shirt and a full head of hair.

"I see," she nodded, "First year in America?" she wondered.

He shook his head, "I moved here as a child."

She wondered, "You have a last name?"

He replied, "In my village we are referred to as the children of our parents. When I came to American, I took the name of my sponsor."

"Oh," she replied a bit confused.

Janet stated, "His name here is Teal'c Murray. His village is called Jaffa. Sometimes, I call him Teal'c of the Jaffa."

Sam wondered, "Are you his sponsor?"

She shook her head, "The Murray's are old friends of mine. I was their doctor. Teal'c is a naturalized citizen. After the Mr. and Mrs. Murray passed he came to stay with me. He's my co-pilot in this race."

"That is so neat," she cheered.

Charlie walked up behind her, "Hey Sam!" She noticed the tall black man standing next to a small redheaded woman. It was an odd couple for the social norms was of a different standard.

Sam stated, "Charlie meet our new friends, Dr. Janet Frasier and Teal'c Murray of the village of Jaffa from Nairobi."

She smiled at the pair, "Nice to meet you." She wasn't sure what to make of them and wondered if they were together as a couple for looked so odd in a day where black men didn't mix with white men.

Teal'c gave her a nod, "It is a pleasure." He seemed very proper in his sentence and mannerisms.

Sam added, "He came to America as a child and was raised by a sponsor. He's a citizen now."

"Got his entire history did ya?" she asked amused.

"I never met anyone from Nairobi before." she countered.

Charlie stated to Teal'c, "You left your country when you were a little kid!"

"Indeed," he nodded.

"Do you remember Nairobi?" she wondered.

"Only some," he admitted.

She looked at Sam, "Don't get too excited! He doesn't remember much of it."

Sam blushed and then miffed at her, "Could you not act like that?"

"Act like what?" she shrugged.

Teal'c stood amused as he watched the pair banter.

"Have a little class!" Sam spat.

"I have plenty of class," she countered with a grin. She held up a finger, "American style class."

Janet assumed, "You two must be fun to hang around with."

"We're a blast," Charlie replied. "Least my father always says so."

"Who is your father?" Janet asked curiously.

"Army Air Corps Colonel Jonathan O'Neill," she told her. "He was a fighter Ace in the Great War."

"Sounds like an interesting man," Janet told her. "I suppose we need to get ready for this race."

"Us too," Sam agreed.

Janet told her, "See ya on California."

"We will see you there," Sam agreed.

Charlie added, "After we win!"

Sam cautioned, "We're up against some heavy hitters, Charlie."

"Mr. Mulligan isn't in this one," she referred to the last winning plan. "We do have a chance!"

A single engine plane then taxied down the field before them. It was white and the name Mr. Mulligan painted in red on the side. The four gave a disturbed look.

"Mulligan is in the race," Teal'c observed.

Sam looked at Charlie, "Not in the race, huh?"

She sighed, "We all lose equally."
