I.
He always placed a hand on her back when the job is done, when he already knows that they have succeeded.
It doesn't matter if they're running as fast as they can or whether they are just trying to casually get out of the scene.
He looks back, for a moment, checking for any detail that they have missed -something that could both endanger them or the mission - then he does what he always does.
He places a hand on her back.
It's a reassurance.
Reassurance. Something very important for him, as they have a job that would always put the two of them in a dangerous playing field.
A hand on her back reassures him that yet another mission is over.
A hand on her back reassures him that yet again, they survived.
A hand on her back tells him that she's fine, unscathed (maybe not most of the time), and that's what's most important.
