Hi! This is my first fanfiction, so I apologize in advance if it feels kind of messy. There will probably be spelling/grammar mistakes, so sorry about that. I tried my best to keep the characters' personalities the same and limited OC's. There are a lot of mixed ships and when I update will probably be really inconsistent, so sorry, but here's the first chapter!

NOTE: (7/23/2016) The story has been revised significantly, so I would advise rereading the chapters if you have read it before this date.

Disclaimer: I do not own Pokemon.

Chapter 1

Monday

Leaf Green certainly did not like the backseat. Her earbuds were plugged in and the music was at a deafening volume, but it refused to drown out her new stepmother's annoying laughter, which prompted Leaf to groan loudly every time she heard it. Clearly, Sydney, on the other hand, was somehow finding the energy this early in the morning to not retaliate. Leaf also did not appreciate the fact that she had taken the shotgun seat for herself. For the fifth time, Leaf rummaged through her large yellow bag, checking if she had forgotten anything. Again, she realized her paranoia was unnecessary and shut it close. Sighing, Leaf rested her head on the car window. A few weeks ago, her father, Mark Green, decided to sell his silver Bentley in exchange for a green Prius. It was still in mint condition, from the seats to the exterior to the fragrance inside. The car moved at a steady pace, allowing Leaf to scan her surroundings.

Cerulean City was completely foreign to her. She grew up on the east side of Pallet Town, where her father had a mansion built, along with a huge garden for her to play in. Aside from that, most of Pallet Town was composed of flourishing flower gardens, vegetable fields, dirt roads, and never-ending green meadows. Cerulean City was more modern, with colossal skyscrapers and the latest technology. About fifteen miles away from the busy city life, there was the suburbs, where they lived. Leaf and her father had moved in with Sydney. Her father was paying for house extensions. Right now, construction workers were building a wooden frame next to the main house.

The song ended and Leaf looked up briefly to see her father and Sydney exchange affectionate smiles. It was a miracle Leaf did not start gagging. Her eyes went down to her phone and she started scrolling through her playlist absentmindedly, seeing the titles, but not really. Only two weeks ago, Leaf had witnessed her father and Sydney's rather extravagant wedding and everything after that went a little too fast for her to keep up with. Leaf didn't want to sound like a brat, but she really opposed the idea of her father marrying Sydney, not that she had been vocal about it. Everything about Sydney screamed 'Cerulean City Socialite"… the kind of person Leaf could not imagine her father with... although being principal of an academy didn't really fit with the image.

Leaf had been so caught up in her daydreaming, she almost missed her father saying, "We're here, Leaf."

She knew Cerulean Academy had the best Pokemon education available in the entire region of Kanto and maybe even internationally, but she wasn't prepared for what met her eyes. The high school she attended back in Pallet Town was only two stories high. The building here towered over them by ten stories. The sunlight shone against the sienna-colored wooden walls, and the green grass and trees only added to the amazing scenery. If Leaf hadn't known better, she would've thought this was a prestigious university campus.

Leaf looked back to her father to say goodbye, but then she saw Sydney leaning in for a kiss. She quickly got out and strode a few yards away from the car.

Sydney was twenty-nine, but could easily pass for a few years younger, and had resided in Cerulean City for her entire life. She had fair skin, a platinum blonde mane, and azure eyes. She loved films and would have become an actress if she hadn't decided she wanted to inspire young Pokemon trainers instead. She specialized in Ice-type Pokemon. These were only a few of the things her father had told her about Sydney. Leaf didn't really exactly hate Sydney, but it felt like there was a constant competition between the two to who got more of Mark's attention. Sydney found Leaf spoiled. Leaf thought Sydney was manipulating. Even though her father always told Leaf she always came first, she felt abandoned ever since Sydney came into the picture.

After Sydney backed away from the car, she saw her father wave at her. Leaf smiled and waved back, before he drove off. Sydney didn't bother to say anything to Leaf and headed towards the building.

Leaf looked around. It really was a beautiful campus. Seeing that she was an hour early, Leaf sat down at a bench and got out her book: Love and Leftovers.

Misty Waterflower brushed the loose strands out of her face with her fingers, tucked them behind her ears, and then studied herself in the full-length mirror. Her elbow-length orange hair was still semi-wet, but it would dry soon. She had chosen a t-shirt and cutoff jeans along with a red flannel tied around her waist, paired with red and white sneakers. Misty was about to change again when she heard Daisy call for her. Deciding it wasn't that bad, Misty grabbed her opal ring from the night stand, then headed down the stairs.

At the kitchen table, her oldest sister, Daisy, and her mother, Raine Waterflower, were going over wedding plans. Daisy groaned as she looked through the binder that was meant to help with the planning and took several sips from her home-brewed coffee. "If I'd known a wedding was, like, so hard to plan, I would have, like, never gotten engaged." Misty couldn't help but be amused.

Out of the three Sensational Sisters, Daisy was the most notorious for dating. The tabloids have linked her to about fifty men ever since she was eighteen; only nineteen of them she had actually dated. Her last boyfriend was a gym leader in the Kanto region named Vince and they were engaged for almost a month, until he declared Daisy was too needy, leaving her heartbroken. This was three years ago. Last spring, Daisy announced she was engaged to Tracey Sketchit, who was an aspiring artist, the assistant of Professor Oak, and Misty's friend. In the two years and a half that followed Vince and Daisy's break up, the paparazzi were unable to catch her with a new man, but that didn't stop the tabloids from claiming Daisy was spotted having dinner with Lance, the Kanto Pokemon Champion, or that she was locking lips with Falkner at a street corner. The announcement came as a surprise to all, excluding the Waterflower family and other close friends, and the next day, all media was exploding with the news.

Tracey Sketchit had just happened to swing by the Cerulean Gym when there was a problem with the pipes and had volunteered to fix them, free of charge. Daisy had taken him on a date as thanks, but only a week later, Misty found Daisy dressing up for another one. Flushed, Daisy said that a second date was only part of her way to say thank you and used the same excuse for the third time and the fourth time. By the fifth date, Misty commented how grateful Daisy must be to go on all those dates and Daisy only shook her head and laughed. Miraculously, they were able to keep their relationship secret from the tabloids. On their twenty month anniversary, Tracey had gotten down on his knees and purposed. Daisy came home crying out of pure joy that night.

"Oh, Misty," Daisy stood up and rubbed the back of her neck. Her blonde locks were shining and she had dazzling green eyes. It was certainly hard deciding which Sensational Sister was the most magnificent. "Maybe we should just, like, elope. I have to meet Paris Michelle at ten so we can discuss the wedding dress she's going to design for me… and then I have to attend this meeting about the cosmetics line…"

"Well, you kind of did create the line so…" Misty slipped her rest of her books into her bag.

"I know, but still…" Daisy whined. "Should I say I want a modern dress or a more vintage-y classic… oh hi, Giovanni."

Raine smiled and got up to kiss him on the cheek. "What a nice surprise, Giovanni. You should join us for breakfast."

Misty cringed. Of course she loved seeing her mother so happy to find love again, but she didn't trust her new boyfriend. Yet. Something was just off about him.

Giovanni's eyes flickered towards the redhead and stayed there. The corners of his mouth lifted. "I'm glad I finally ran into you… Misty, right?" She simply nodded. "I regret missing the opportunities to know each other better, but Raine told me you spent the second half of summer at a Water Pokemon camp in the Orange Islands?"

'Well, it's half of the truth.' Again, Misty nodded, avoiding eye contact. "Hey Daisy, we should go."

"Why? It's still pretty early for you. We don't have to, like, leave right now."

"Don't you have something that's going to start soon?" Misty crossed her fingers that she was right.

Daisy frowned, but got her calendar notebook out of her purse, which she used to jot down plans and events. "I don't think so… Wait, you're right, Misty! I have to be at Delia's in like, twenty minutes, to meet with the guy who's going to book the ceremony and reception place…"

Misty gave her mother a peck on the cheek before hurrying out. Daisy headed over to the passenger side, while on the phone. "… I miss you too, sweetie…"

Misty smiled a little. With Daisy as busy as ever, she hadn't been able to make any time for Tracey. Those short phone calls and text messages were all they could manage at the moment. Misty started the ignition, while subconsciously tracing the etching of her ring.

Gary Oak buried his face in his pillow. The alarm was still beeping, but he was too lazy to hit the snooze button again. 'Oh my Arceus, can that alarm just shut the f-' Suddenly, he bolted out of bed, muttering a bunch of profanities. He quickly changed and rushed downstairs. His grandpa, Professor Samuel Oak, was attempting to make breakfast.

"Morning, grandpa," Gary said, while rubbing his left eye. He did splash freezing cold water in his face in the bathroom to wake him up, but he honestly wouldn't mind a few more hours of sleep. "What are you making?"

"Blueberry pancakes, sunny side up eggs, and bacon," Professor Oak beamed. "I actually think I'm doing pretty well."

Gary actually lived with his parents for most of his life, but in seventh grade, he decided to move in with his grandpa. Gary's father, Zander Oak, and Professor Oak have been estranged since before Gary's birth.

Gary smirked. The last time his grandfather tried to cook a meal, their whole house would have burned down if it hadn't for Gary's Wartotle, who had evolved into a Blatoise since then. "Where's Monica?" Since both of them had zero cooking skills, they had a housekeeper, who also made the best lemon layer cake.

"I gave her an extra week off for vacation… We are perfectly capable of taking care of ourselves, right Gary?… I know what you're thinking, but-" The smoke alarm system cut him off. "No, I burned the pancakes! Wait, Gary…" Gary turned around just in time to catch the granola bar thrown in his direction.

"Thanks, grandpa," Gary said and was about to leave, when Professor Oak mentioned Ash Ketchum calling the landline and leaving a message that he was going to get to school before Gary. Two points.

Gary grinned, remembering how when they were younger, everything became a competition. "We'll see about that, Ashy-Boy."

After a particularly heavy chapter, Leaf decided that was enough reading for today. She then marked her place in her novel with a bookmark. Leaf looked up to see a blue car driving into the parking lot. That was a little odd. Leaf was sure she would be the only one here for at least fifteen minutes. She took a deep breath and ran her fingers through her hair, hoping it looked okay. Maybe whoever had just pulled up would be her first new friend. She put her book away in her bag and waited as the driver's door started to open.

The driver stepped out and even from a distance, Leaf could tell she was attractive. She had long orange hair, either blue or green eyes, and a slim figure. And she looked like a really nice person. Something else about her felt really familiar, but Leaf couldn't quite put her tongue on it. Okay, whatever. Leaf stood up. If this girl rejected her, at least no one would witness it.

Misty was surprised to see someone else. Last year, when she arrived at this time, the campus was absolutely empty. And the girl was heading her way. As she got closer, Misty could see her features better. She had light brown hair and emerald eyes with chocolate flecks. She had on a mint green top, a red skirt, and red sneakers. A white hat with a coral bow rested upon her head. As a whole, she was really, really pretty.

The girl stopped about five feet away and then said with a smile on her face, "Hello! My name is Leaf Green! Sorry, I just wanted to introduce myself so I could make friends. I have homeroom with Mr. Brock Harrison. Who do you have homeroom with?"

If Leaf could somehow beat herself up without seeming psychotic, she would've had done it at that moment. Her heart was racing, like it always did when meeting strangers. She instantly felt this wave of relief rushing inside her when the redhead genuinely smiled and replied with, "Hi, I'm Misty. I have the same homeroom."

An uncomfortable silence followed. Misty gave her a once-over. She was probably the same age, same grade if they had the same homeroom and she was probably new, but something about her… "Hey, is this your first year here?"

Leaf smiled and hoped she didn't come off as annoying. "Actually, yeah. I'm glad we have the same homeroom. I'm from Pallet Town… small town, though. Um… Me and my dad moved from there to here because of his new wife, my stepmother." She accidentally bit her tongue. Ow. Maybe she should spare herself the embarrassment and stop now. "So do you have any tips? People to avoid? Events that are actually worthy to go to? I want to start senior year right, because last year was kind of terrible."

"Welcome to Cerulean Academy. Let's see. Well, this is a K-12 school, but they separate the different levels. The building with the green flag is the elementary school, the one with the blue flag is junior high, and the high school has a red flag. Ours is the farthest walk from here. Um, most people at this school are pretty nice, so don't be afraid to talk to them. Most teachers don't mind if you're a few minutes late and- oh! I forgot; they liked to be called by their first name. I guess it makes them feel young, I suppose? Don't be late to Brock's class. He's not that strict of a teacher, but he'll usually lock you out if you're even a minute late, unless you have a really good excuse... and now that I think about it, unless you're a girl. He's not creepy though, I swear, he just has a soft spot for lucky us. Seniors can go off-campus for lunch… homecoming is sometime in October… and you can sign up for clubs the second week of school."

"What clubs are you in?"

"I'm on the swim team." Misty beamed.

Leaf could not let go of the nagging feeling inside of her that Misty's eyes reminded her of-

"THAT'S NOT FAIR, GARY. YOU HAVE A MOTORCYCLE AND YOU LIVE CLOSER."

Leaf looked over Misty's shoulder to see a boy about their age with raven-black hair and dark brown eyes step out of an old red sedan, that had definitely lost its original shine and would soon be rusting. He had on a blue jacket with short sleeves over a dark green t-shirt with cuffed jeans and sneakers. He wore fingerless black gloves and also a mostly red cap. He was then standing next to someone on a dark blue motorcycle, who was currently dismounting the vehicle. The guy took off his motorcycle helmet and Leaf had to admit, he was really good-looking, although his head of mahogany spikes were probably about two feet. He also had the most gorgeous dark blue eyes. 'Gary' sported a violet t-shirt and dark jeans. A green and yellow yin-yang necklace hung from his neck.

"You had a head start and you have a car. Consider it fair and square."

"The most this car can go is probably twenty-five. Come on, Gary!"

"Well, Ashy-Boy, I think that point should go to me." Leaf watched, amused, as Gary started to walk away from the argument. As he passed them, they locked eyes for a moment and Gary winked at her. Leaf's face didn't burn up, but she did feel her heart skip a beat.

Ashy-Boy - or some variation of that - went running after Gary. "GARY, COME BACK H- oh, hey Misty- GARY!"

Leaf turned and observed how Gary seemed to taunt Ashy-Boy even more and his reaction was almost comical.

"I almost forgot. They should be first and second on the people-to-avoid list."

Leaf couldn't help but giggle at Misty's comment.

First chapter up! Yippe! So I think that's it. Please R&R. Bye for now!
