The Gods Game

"Don't touch it."

The Doctor had taken his companion to yet another museum. This one closely resembled a stereotypical medieval castle but made of glittering black stones and filled with multicolored glowing insects which traveled freely throughout the rooms. Making the whole place feel like aliens had built it with only the basic understanding of what a fantasy castle was; which was exactly what had happened.

"What," his companion asked. She was surprised at been called out for going to finger the paper envelope but also cautious. After all, you never knew what you'd run into while running around with The Doctor.

"It's dangerous."

"Dangerous?" She raised an eyebrow, "It looks like a cheap computer game. How can you say it's dangerous while holding that thing?" She waved a hand at the particularly deadly looking spear The Doctor still hadn't put down after twirling it about and humming action themes.

"That's exactly what it is." He came to hover over her shoulder. "A game. A very powerful, very deadly game."

She stared at him while a bright blue bug crawled away from them, hiding their features in the dark. She tilted her head and half gestured with her arm. "You expect me to believe that."

He glanced up at her and nearly laughed at her expression. He knew he would have if they had been talking about anything else. "Well, whether or not you believe it is up to you but it makes it no less true."

In silence he stared at the simple square envelope. Its only decoration was a cross shaped house made up of purple squares and two triangle with some writing. The writing was illegible to him; it was far too old for him to even tell if the writing was the games title, description, or even if it was just a hastily scribbled note left behind by some alien hand.

A red bug crawled closer, its eerie glow making the envelope appear blood stained.

"This game, the things they say about it. It's older than this universe. In fact, they say it's responsible for creating this universe and destroying another. It's a game for the Gods. It's bloody, cruel, demanding, and essential." He paused for a moment, letting his mind drift towards thoughts of genocide and destroyed planets.

His companion was quite, barely breathing, just letting the echo of words slide along the stone walls. "But most importantly it should never be played again. So no, let's not touch it; it's a rule, no touching." He pointed to white sign with big black letters that translated into 'DO NOT TOUCH' and listed the consequences for doing so, which was having an arm blown off and being blinded in one eye.

"Oh yeah, we wouldn't want to break that rule now would we," his companion retorted with a look at the artifact he still held.

The Doctor humphed and turned away twirling the spear again. "When you learn to use an Atlantian wrench you can say that."

"A wrench? The sign doesn't say that it's a wrench."

The Doctor spun around to face her. "Well the sign's wrong. Now do you want to see the mermaid exhibit or not?" The Doctor grabbed her hand and pulled her toward said exhibit, shoving away the thoughts of gods and games and death.

Meanwhile one of the teal grubs crawled across a shiny stone panel casting the reflection of a gray child with horns and glowing red eyes before scurrying towards the games podium.

AN: I don't like the ending but it was fun to write.

Speaking of which, this was written about 1 AM after I decided there aren't enough crossovers (and that a few of the ones that do exist are good and should update). Also we were just put on a hiatus, seriously it was written on the 15th.

So tell me what you thought of it, please.
