"Spencer, are you sure you're going to be okay?" Carly eyed her brother with the utmost concern.

"I'll be fine Carly, stop worrying." Spencer playfully messed with his sister's long raven hair. She giggled, but this could not lighten the somber mood that had taken hold of the entrance to the Bushwell plaza.

"It's just that, we know you guys have raised us practically our whole lives, and we just don't want you to get too depressed once we're gone." Freddie was speaking now, and he was directing this at both Spencer and his mother. Mrs. Benson smiled deeply at her son and pulled him in for an embrace.

"It's okay Freddie, we've been preparing for this." She held Freddie's face so they were eye-to-eye. "We knew you couldn't stay with us forever."

"And besides," Spencer added. "It's only Oregon. You, Carly, Sam, and Gibby are not going to be that far away."

"I know," Freddie said, getting irritated.

"I think what Freddie's trying to say," Carly began. "Is that you almost seem to be taking this too well."

"Yeah, especially you mom." Mrs. Benson simply smiled and put a hand to Freddie's shoulder.

"When you're unexpectedly forced to say goodbye to a husband, everything else seems easier in comparison." Freddie and Carly's faces both fell. On either side of them, Sam and Gibby studied the ground, feeling out of place.

"And I'm going to be working on that huge project with Harry Joyner over the next five years," Spencer said.

"But what are you guys going to do when you're home alone and we're not there?" asked Freddie. Spencer shook his head with a grin.

"Freddo, Carls, come on. You're making it sound like we're old ladies here. Mrs. Benson has a lot to do at the hospital, and I have more than enough projects to keep me busy. And besides, if we really need the company, we live right across the hall from one another."

Carly and Freddie looked at each other. Neither could think of anything else to say.

"Now go on," Spencer prodded. "You guys all have classes tomorrow. We may not receive your report cards anymore, but we still want you to do well."

"Okay." Carly wrapped her arms around her big brother and pressed her head against his chest. Next to them, Mrs. Benson and Freddie were sharing one last hug as well.

"Alright, alright, enough goodbyes!" Sam ripped both Carly and Freddie out of Spencer and Mrs. Benson's arms and dragged them in the direction of Gibby's car. "See ya at Thanksgiving," Sam said, although she didn't turn around.

"Okay, you kids be careful!"

"Bye Freddie!"

Carly climbed into the passenger's seat of Gibby's white convertible, while Sam and Freddie slid in the backseats. Carly and Freddie stared one last time at their relatives as the ignition turned on. Gibby guided the vehicle out of the parking lot and honked the horn.

Mrs. Benson and Spencer waved until the car was out of sight. When they had stopped waving, and the kids were gone, they simply stood staring off into the distance. Words were not needed, although eventually Spencer broke the silence.

"I think they're going to be okay." Mrs. Benson nodded.

"I think so too. We raised them well."

"Yeah…" Spencer shot Mrs. Benson a sudden wild look.

"Ready?"

"Call me 'lover'!"

Mrs. Benson hopped into Spencer's arms. Spencer grinned like crazy as he dashed back into the building and up the stairs, his legs unable to carry them to his bedroom fast enough.

AN: That's more like it! My last story was rather serious, so I decided to change things up. Did you guys like this? I have some other silly, offbeat ideas I'm considering, and I want to see what you all think.
