A small one-shot idea that I had. Timed about three months after Emily's death. I said four years, because in season 3 Spencer said he'd been clean for 10 months, and I gave each season after that a year. So the official timeline may be off compared to the T. V. Show. P.S. I don't own anything.
Enjoy.
A group of eleven people were seated in a circle. Ten of these eleven people were watching the eleventh, listening to his story. "I.. we lost her. Emily died, and we're never going to get her back." Spencer tried to choke back a sob. "I was driving home from work one night, and I saw… I saw a dealer."
"Did you stop?" The counselor asked.
Spencer started crying. "Yes, I stopped, and I bought some Dilaudid." He heard the counselor open his mouth to speak, by the sharp intake of breath, and plunged forward, knowing that if he didn't get it out, he might not. "I got home, and I got so far as to put the tourniquet around my arm, before I had this vision of Emily. She was telling me that it wasn't worth it."
"How long has it been Spencer?"
"She's been gone for three months now."
"Not Emily, Spencer, how long has it been since you have taken Dilaudid?"
"It's been four years." He said, starting to sit back up again. "I was sitting on my couch, and I had everything that I needed in front of me." He crossed his arms around himself. "I had everything that I wanted."
The counselor leaned back in his chair. "Spencer, it isn't the fact that you bought the drugs that I think is the important part here. It's the fact that you bought the drugs, and didn't take them."
"I couldn't."
"That's the important part Spencer, that you had the ability to use again, and overcame it. Congratulations."
