I own nothing of Battlestar Galactica. I only borrow the characters from time to time.
It Must Be Heaven
The cabin sat atop a lush mountain with an easterly view as he promised. Every morning, without fail, Laura sat on the porch and watched the daybreak over the mountain range. She closed her eyes and bask in the warming glow. Soon, the mountain top was bathed in the yellows and golds of sunrise. The dew glistened on the swaying reed grass as the birds woke to a new day with song.
"Bill," she called, "you're missing it."
Inside he busied himself with things he felt more important than watching the sunrise as it did every morning. He paused and with a smile, he realized he would never be able to say no to her.
He pulled a chair close and held her hand and took in the sights around him. Without her, he knew he would forget what it was like to live.
As he sat holding her hand, he didn't take in the beauty of the dawn, but of her. He didn't notice the colors of the sunrise as they danced across the yard, but as they danced in the glint of her auburn hair. She looked at him and smiled, the green of her eyes put the abundant pastures below to shame.
When evening came, and the day of working the gardens was over, they ate dinner by the window with the westerly view. The reds, oranges and purples of sunset drifted across the floor. Soon the last hue would fade into darkness.
He would find her outside staring at the night sky. She would motion him to her. They would stand arm in arm surveying the twinkle of stars above them. The stars, where they once lived, still held the magic of a life long ago.
In the deepness of night, when the rains came and washed everything new, the patter of the raindrops was their lullaby as they slept tangled in each other's arms.
A rumble of thunder nudged her from deep slumber. She shifted ever so slightly, with sleepy eyes her gaze met his.
He brushed a wisp of hair from her face.
She smiled and whispered, "This must be heaven."
"It must be," he said as he softly kissed her lips, "it reminds me of you."
