Eternal Mami

Summary: Just because she's gone, doesn't mean there's no more Valentine's Day chocolate for him.

A/N: I am getting seriously fixated on Mami. I just love the fact that Enma used to be such a loving big brother (which is more than my own brother can claim). Anyway, this is just a sort of random spin-off idea that came to me as I was preparing to go to sleep last night. (Why do all my good ideas come at that time?) Okay, I know, I know, I haven't updated any of my other fics, but… but… it's really the Curse of the Plot Bunnies! Don't look at me like that! Don't!

Mami, I miss you.

Mami, I miss you more than ever.

Mami, I miss you more than ever and ever and ever and…

How many variations of that phrase could Enma come up with anyway?

~Eternal Mami~

Every year, she would give him chocolate. It wasn't any kind of fantastic chocolate or anything. It wasn't even chocolate that was made by her. It was cheap, store-bought chocolate, the kind that could be bought anywhere.

She bought it with the meager amount of pocket money she received.

She would present it to him the moment he woke up from bed. She would run into his room and pull on his blankets and whack him with his pillow until he gave her his full attention. She would then give it to him with a sunny smile that lit up the entire room.

The chocolate was ordinary. Too-sweet, half-melted from the warmth of her hand and gooey.

And it tasted absolutely delicious to him.

He would tear open the wrapper and proceed to eat it. She would then eye the chocolate hungrily and he would break the bar in half and give one half to her.

They would eat it, and make a mess, and their mother would come and scold them for dirtying the bed.

They would laugh and then cry when their father came and scolded them as well.

Every year it was the same.

Every year…

Every Valentine's Day…

~Eternal Mami~

Valentine's Day again.

One year after the last gooey, half-melted, too-sweet cheap chocolate bar they shared.

One year after the last time he would hear the small, squeaky voice of his sister announcing to him that it was Valentine's Day.

One year…

One tear…

Two…

Then three…

One year, and too many tears to shed.

~Eternal Mami~

Seven years, and no more tears.

No more.

~Eternal Mami~

He bought a chocolate bar.

On Valentine's Day.

He broke it in half.

And he smiled and held out one half of the bar.

"Here you go, Mami."

And he let the breeze wash over him and he distinctly heard a faint voice saying "Thank you, Enma-nii-chan."

A/N: Did anyone actually get the story? Ok, I guess I should explain the 'seven years' bit. Enma was seven when Mami was killed. So, seven years pass, and he's now 14 (which is his age now in manga time!) and he doesn't cry for her anymore, because his rage has been compromised. In short, he has no more reasons to be pissed at the Vongola and the mafia in general. He doesn't cry or rage anymore.
