Jacob
Jacob swung his heavy legs over the small twin bed, sitting on the edge and stretched his long arms out as far as he could until a satisfying "pop" let him relax his shoulders. He let out a large yawn before rolling back his shoulders one last time. Peering out the musty window he frowned inwardly, it was a glum day with gray clouds threating him at every moment. Just another 'beautiful' day in my personal heck, Jacob thought sarcastically as he stood up from his warm bed. He sauntered over to his bathroom, grabbing his green toothbrush off the yellow stained countertop before smothering it with toothpaste. The usual routine; brush teeth, shave, gel hair, apply deodorant, get dressed- it started off everyday like this for him.
It wasn't until Jacob checked his email that anything eventful occurred that day. He was thumbing through the spam mail with little interest- about to get off the computer when he saw it.
TO: Jacob
From: Bella
Subject: I Miss You.
Jacob immediately growled. How dare she? Of course she would ignore his pleas to stop contacting him- it only made things harder. He knew he should delete the letter without reading it but his heart gave way. He clicked the small unread link and devoured the letter.
Hey Jake,
I know you didn't want me to contact you…but I couldn't help it. Please don't me mad, you have to understand that this is hard for me too…I mean in a different way of course. You're my best friend. I really care about you. Why cant we just be friends? I want to know what's going on in your life! I want to know everything! So many things have changed! Edward and I got a little apartment in Seattle- it's small, but its nice. He's working right now as a doctor with Carlisle. It's a pretty neat position. Nobody seems to be interested in my writing yet...I'm still trying to edit some of my work so that I can at least get someone to consider my story…of course I'm a little disappointed, I thought someone would want to publish my work, but it takes time. Wish you were here. Please write back. I miss you so much.
Love, Bella.
Jacob re-read the letter three times before hitting the reply button. The cursor remained blinking at the beginning of the page for the next fifteen minutes before he turned off the computer altogether. He wasn't ready to let her back in.
Please God, he pled in his mind, let me forget Bella. Let me move on. He continued his silent prayer throughout the rest of the day. Through his workout at the gym- through work at the automotive repair shop- through his lunch…he continued to plead. It wasn't until he was out late at the bar that his mind started to wander to something else…it was currently the blond staring at him across the room. Jacob straightened his skinny black tie before walking over to her, drink in hand.
"Mind if I join?" he asked the pretty blond as she peered up to him with a smile.
"Thought you'd never ask." She purred as she slid over in her seat, making room for him to sit. Jacob gratefully took the seat next to her, noting her red skin-tight dress; the red sparkled under the right light as she moved, it was breath taking.
"You look stunning," Jacob complimented, his eyes drinking her up.
"You don't look half bad yourself." She whispered. Jacob smiled as he took another sip of his drink.
