Bittersweet
John observed as she stood at the water's edge, looking out at the vast ocean before her, the waves crashing and caressing her bare feet. They had spent a beautiful day at the beach although the darkness of the night had fallen on the evening sky; many lights sparkled in the distance, the moons making their appearance on the horizon.
Teyla had needed this time to heal. Her sadness was always there in her eyes lately, of her lost, their lost, to be given something so precious and to have had it taken away by a homicidal maniac masquerading as a Wraith, who was bend on revenge was hellish. It had broken her heart, man, his wasn't doing so well either, but to watch the woman, he admires above all others, consumed with such despair, ate away at his very soul.
Some laughter had appeared back in the windows of her soul today of which he was grateful. He was grateful to be the one who was the cause of her happiness, grateful that the events of the past few months was finally behind them, at least for this day. Grateful that just maybe, it was a sign of better things to come for them.
He approached her slowly, his feet sinking in the sand, deeper and deeper until he reached the shore. The ground was a little more firm under his feet, now the water of the ocean brought in by the evening tide was now covering his bare feet then retreating back into the ocean. Touching her lightly on her shoulder as he reached her side, she turned and sought the warmth of his embrace. His arms encircled her languid body, lowering his head, his chin now touching the crown of her head.
The couple separated reluctantly, the warmth of their bodies had given each of them comfort, the rush of the surf duplicating their emotions, Teyla placed her hand in his and requested that he walk with her. They walked holding hands slowly along the shore for a few minutes, the water from the waves of the ocean crashing against their feet and legs. Teyla pausing for a moment to look at John, smiling and thanking him for the beautiful day they shared together.
She had realized earlier as she watched the sun set with it orange-ish tint as it disappeared on the horizon. That nothing could ever replace the lost of her child, but with each pasting day, the pain did dim just a little bit more, and the stronger she became. That there was a life still worth living for, with the man who was by her side and yes, she would always remember and cherished the memories and the moments with her beautiful son, but she need to let go of her despair and begin again.
John, who was smiling and looking down at her, saw the renewed fire in her eyes. Unable to look away, both too afraid to lose the moment, slowly his head lower, hers rising to meet his, softly their lips touch. Later, not even the waves of the evening tides could separate the entwined bodies lying on the sands of the beach. His lips on hers telling, her all the things that were in his heart, the things he found so difficult to express out loud. Finally, telling her all the things he had wanted to say.
End.
